Information about Stephanie
I graduated from Keele University with a First Class honours degree in English and American Literatures. My love for teaching started in 2011 when I worked in Shanghai, China as an English teacher for 3 months. I further developed my skills as a tutor in Explore Learning, Walton-on-Thames teaching English and Maths.
During my second year at University I studied in America at San Diego State University achieving a GPA of 3.98/4.00. I studied `Childhood Literature` which led me to write my final year dissertation on `Roald Dahl`s Pedagogy`. It has given me a great insight into how children learn from literature and reading from a child`s perspective.
I am a passionate, flexible tutor aspiring to be a Secondary school English teacher.
Availability: Weekdays/Weekends (all times)
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: In China I had to devise exciting and challenging teaching plans that would sustain the pupil`s interest. After three months I developed a unique understanding of how students learn best.
As tutoring, in Explore Learning, is organised in groups of 6, I had to oversee the group as well as tutor the individuals who each had their own independent targets. I have a strong base of knowledge in Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 and GCSE level. More specifically: comprehension grammar punctuation spelling syntax reading and handwriting.
I tailor my tutoring to the individual`s needs identifying their abilities and the most effective way they learn. I use different teaching models to maximise teaching outcomes. Recapping material, weekly homework and the frequent completion of past papers is essential in building a student`s foundation.
Ultimately I believe the key to a student`s success and development is a patient teacher who maintains an unwavering belief in their tutee.
