Information about Adam
I graduated from the University of Nottingham in June 2012 with a degree in mathematics, with honours. I also attained A, A and B in my maths, further maths and physics A Levels, respectively.
Then I worked in finance departments and technology, while tutoring part-time. Because my passion for helping others with their maths has grown, I decided to become a full-time tutor.
I am now an experienced maths tutor and I can effectively tutor and prepare secondary school students to both GCSE and A Level. I am proficient at identifying a students strengths and weaknesses, enabling me to propose areas to focus on to promote effective learning progression. I am patient and can explain the same concept in a variety of ways to help students understand ideas and topics. I have been passionate about maths from a very young age, and I am eager to pass on my knowledge and passion to help students gain a better understanding of maths.
Availability: Please ask for more information.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I have extensive knowledge of elementary maths and I am familiar with all exam boards and all syllabuses up to A Level including maths and further maths. As well as my regular students, I have also tutored:
primary school students in preparation for SATs
students from Spain
those with SEN (Special Education Needs) due to long-term illness or learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and anxiety.
I prepare each lesson to bring out the best in each student. This includes organisational structure, time management, recapping fundamentals, problem-solving and exam technique. It is often not the quantity of work that makes a difference, but the quality and focus of what the student and I decide they need to work on that really makes a difference. This approach continues to the homework, which I cater towards maximising their improvement.
I teach in a highly structured way, tackling topics one by one. I encourage questions and discussion and suggest helpful resources.
Everyone learns at a different pace and in different ways. My primary aim is to listen and communicate well with each student, so that I can really understand their needs and cater to them; in turn, they get the most out of each lesson. Furthermore, I actively engage each student with what they need (or want) to learn. I try to strike a balance between motivating students whilst working at their own pace. I have also implemented various strategies such as DoK (Depth of Knowledge) and FICT Framework (Familiarity, Independence, Complexity, Technical demand).
I have a proven track record of yielding excellent exam results for my students, helping many of them improve by up to 3 grades.
Tutoring over 200 students in the past 6 years has been a challenging yet rewarding experience and has given me the opportunity to help children from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities, enabling me to become a well-rounded tutor.

Feedback For Adam (2)

Adam is very pleasant and organised - we had a short engagement with him as our tutor from previous years became available again - but based on this short time I would recommend him.

Adam was a supportive and attentive tutor with Jack who struggled with maths and also helped him with his confidence and securing extra time in his final GCSE exams owing to Jack`s suspected Dyscalculia. When we went into lockdown Adam immediately offered to continue Jack`s tuition online but this was not needed as Jack`s GCSEs were cancelled as a result of the pandemic. I continue to wish Adam well in his tutoring career. Laura Berrill (Jack`s mother)
