Information about Arthur

I am an experienced full-time GCSE/A-Level/IB Economics and Maths tutor as well as in the past being an Economics Examiner and a Maths and Economics teacher at a top school in North London. I specialise in helping Maths and Economics A-level & GCSE (AQA, Edexcel (A and B), OCR, WJEC)/IB students (SL/HL) to achieve a transformation in their learning and push themselves to excel in their respective subject. I also work with University students at top universities such as UCL, LSE and Oxford. Typical students of mine vary significantly, with some starting at a C/D grade level whilst others are already at an A grade and just need the extra boost to get them to the A*, however the commonality between all of my students is that we aim to acheive the A/A* and apply to top UK/US Universities. I am based in London and work both online and in person. I am happy to travel within London to best suit the educational needs of the student. I am very passionate about teaching and find tutoring incredibly rewarding. I am very easy to get on with and have always built a good professional relationship with my students, thus they enjoy working with me (See the reviews below).

I have designed my teaching process so that the student is guided through each step to help them better perform in class and in the final exam. For me, a great Economics paper not only comes from mastery of the theory, but also from an ability to effectively communicate that in an exam situation.

Therefore, I cover all of these areas:

1) How to build understanding of syllabus-specific theory
Whether you are AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC or IB you`ll learn how to move beyond memorisation to building understanding, a requirement for top band marks.

2) How to incorporate advanced diagrams into work
Understand how diagrams work and how they may be used productively to show more challenging skills and create a ‘wow-factor’ in your long essays.

3) How to solve multiple choice questions with a low margin of error
Understand how multiple choice is a game of logic which can be learnt and mastered. You will learn how to distinguish between possible responses and spot the tricks the exam board has used so that you can score higher, more consistently.

4) How to write great essays more consistently
Understand the skills essays are graded on, and how to show them at top standards subject to your teacher`s exam strategy. I partner with expert syllabus specific examiners (AQA, OCR, Edexcel, WJEC, IB) so that you receive the most accurate feedback.

For optimal exam performance, firstly, I believe a tutor should be extremely knowledgeable about Economics A-Level/IB and the intricacies of each specification (AQA, Edexcel A or B, OCR, WJEC, IB). This is because specifications are 85% similar in content over the two years of learning, but each exam can be hugely different. AQA may ask a 15 mark question commencing with `Explain why...` and only require: knowledge, application and analysis but OCR may ask an 8 mark question commencing with `Assess why...` and require: knowledge, analysis and evaluation. Furthermore, an AQA question of with the word `consequence(s)` may well require three consequences not two, whereas Edexcel may approve two. Would a student or typical generalist tutor realise which skills are required from just observing the question? I work in collaboration with your teacher`s exam strategy and expert syllabus-specific examiners to get the skills where the marks are and get your papers accurately marked.

In summary, I consider my work a success when the student is in the habit of doing extra work outside of class and is seeing progress towards their target grade, typically the A*, faster than they could achieve by themselves.

A little about myself; I possess a First Class Economics & maths degree from the University of Nottingham graduating as one of the top students in the class. Prior to this I studied Maths, Economics, Russian, Biology and Philosophy at A Level obtaining A*,A*,A*,A,A (acheiving 100% in 3 out of the 4 economics exams).
I first began tutoring during my A levels at school tutoring GCSE students and helping A level Students who were struggling to realise their full potential.
After completing my A levels I took a gap year during which I had an internship with Goldman Sachs, which proved to be an invaluable experience.

My approach is to first of all assess a students current knowledge and understanding in order to determine areas of strength and weakness so as to take the most direct and tailored approach. I will use this to design a programme of study for the given student designed to ensure they achieve an A/A*. We will work through this programme together as well as independent work being done by the student. Review exercises and exam style questions will then be given at the end of each section.

Experience: I have been tutoring students up to university level for the past 7 years in this time I have tutored over 300 students. The majority of my students have achieved their predicted grade or higher in the subject that I taught them for KS3, GCSE and A-level.
Teaching and guiding students to reach their full potential is without doubt a great passion of mine and one which I dedicate myself fully to. Many of the students I have tutored have achieved an A/A* in the subject I have taught them.

Arthur is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He has been teaching me A level Economics for about 9 months now and my knowledge and understanding of Economics has improved so much. He shows you how to write an A* answer and how to evaluate in your essays, which is so important in Economics A level if you want to achieve the top grade. His subject knowledge is amazing and he knows just about everything there is to know about Economics, much more than your average Economics teacher! He breaks down complex topics with clear and concise explanations and always provides up-to-date topical examples that you can slot into your essays. He has a very patient teaching style and is particularly very good at explaining the Mathematical and numeracy questions that you get in Economics A level. Mathematics isn’t my strong point but he has helped so much with this aspect and now I have a lot more confidence in this area. If you want an A or A* definitely, I would highly recommend that you have Arthur as your tutor.

Arthur is a GAME CHANGER! To say that he is OUTSTANDING is an understatement. Arthur has spent a long time preparing his course and tutorials. He has in-depth knowledge of what is expected in the exam. He is brilliant at explaining difficult concepts, he is an outstanding communicator, he knows his material and exam requirements perfectly and glides his students to their maximum performance. Arthur transformed my Son from a B student A level Economics to a 90% result and a A*. In my opinion Arthur is one of the best tutors overall. I have not come across such exceptional quality, dedication and excellence.

Arthur had one session with my son. I had emailed him some points beforehand, and asked him to come back to me afterwards. As I didn`t hear, I sent a couple of additional emails about future sessions. When I didn`t hear back, I messaged him via TH and he apologised for not reading the emails, and said he would come back to me shortly. We heard nothing further, so I can only say that the lesson was a waste of time and money.

Tutors Response :

I responded to Lisa’s email straight after responding via Tutorhunt and after receiving no further response again followed up which again I received no response to. I assumed she no longer wished to continue lessons hence made no further contact.
