Information about Chloe

Hi, I`m Chloe! I have qualifications in psychology and education, which have given me an appreciation of a lot of the issues students of all ages face that impact their studies, academic or otherwise. I`ve seen in my work what a difference it can make when a student receives a bit of extra support, whether this is some 1-1 time with someone who is patient and undersatanding, finding a new strategy to help them learn or just having a bit of time to work on a tricky concept away from a busy classroom. I also understand that the way the majority of schools operate nowadays, especially mainstream schools, it isn`t always possible for teachers to give every student the extra time and attention that would help them so much. I`m hoping that through tutoring I will be able to provide this, tailored to each individual`s needs and goals. I would be delighted to help primary aged students with any subject they would like to work on, and secondary aged students with English, Maths, Sciences and/or French up to GCSE level. If you are interested in English tutoring, I can help with general phonics/spelling, reading comprehension, English Language up to GCSE level or students who speak English as a second language and would like some extra help with this. Students are welcome whether they normally attend a mainstream school, a special school or are home-educated. I am happy to adapt things to suit any individual needs your child has, please let me know about these in advance if possible.

Availability: I am available weekdays from 4:30pm during term-time. During school holidays I will have extra availability.

I currently work as a teaching assistant in a secondary school for children with special educational needs. I have worked on a 1-1, small group and whole class basis with students with autism spectrum conditions, learning disabilities, ADHD, physical disabilities, epilepsy, dyslexia, mental health conditions and sensory impairments; adapting the curriculum to ensure it is accessible to all. As part of my role, I frequently lead small group sessions, mainly focusing on functional skills in English and Maths, phonics and spelling. I have also worked with some of our more able students up to GCSE level.
At university I studied psychology as my main subject and also completed modules in statistics, pure and applied mathematics and French. During my final year, I completed a placement at a local mainstream secondary school delivering workshops to students on effective study strategies. My dissertation focussed on cognitive skills and strengths in academically successful students with dyslexia, and my exam-based studies focused mainly on developmental cognition but also included modules on educational psychology, mental health and social psychology.
I have also previously worked as an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teacher, a gymnastics coach and various other activity-based roles with children aged 5-16.
