Information about Jonathan
I am an enthusiastic and determined individual, with a passion for inspiring young people to learn and attain new skills. I strongly feel that pupil learning is optimum when engaged and motivated, and being a young, enthusiastic teacher, I believe I have the ability to achieve this. My subject knowledge is also a strength, having gained top grades throughout my academic career (4A*s at A-Level in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Physics, and a First Class Biology degree from the University of Nottingham).
Availability: Available to tutor evenings from 4.30 onwards in the Loughborough area, or from 5.00 onwards in in the near vicinity of Sandiacre, Nottingham.
I`m also available during school holidays for more intensive tutoring/revision/catch up sessions.
In light of the Covid 19 crisis, I am available throughout the working week via skype to offer extra tutoring session for pupils.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: Having graduated from my initial Biology degree in 2012, I worked as a teacher in a comprehensive secondary school from September 2016-June 2017 when I started teaching at Loughborough Grammar School. I have great experience in teaching and tutoring Biology to the new GCSE and A-Level specification, as well as at KS3 level.
I believe that pupils often slip up when under the high pressures of exams and often with the wording of exam questions. Therefore my approach is centred around practising exam questions and teaching pupils strategies which allow pupils to tackle exams methodically. I also believe that core understanding is essential for pupils to retain information in preparation for exams. Pupils are much more likely to remember concepts if they have a thorough understanding of them in the first place. Teaching by using analogies and models which are easy to relate to is key in order to achieve this.
