Information about Chris
I graduated in Physics from Imperial College in 1993, gained my Masters in Medical Engineering and Physics at King`s College and my PhD from the University of Sheffield. I have an Enhanced DBS certificate.
I`m passionate about teaching and enabling students to excel through tailoring learning methods to best meet their strengths and needs. A practical scientific career alongside teaching over the last 20 years enable me to provide a broader overview of subjects to increase the relevance and interest of material and so the effectiveness of students` learning.
While tutoring had traditionally been a successful way of building students` confidence and enhancing their natural abilities, I believe it has an increasingly important role in overcoming limitations in the changing nature of teaching maths and physics. The increasingly modular delivery of these subjects limits students` overall understanding, reducing progress and performance in examinations. I believe that tutoring with a more joined-up approach not only gives a better grasp of basic principles but also a better overall understanding, equipping students for further studies.
Successful tutoring involves several factors:
I begin courses of tuition by discussing students` requirements with parents - including their desired objectives for the sessions, their perceived strengths and weaknesses of their child (including those reported by teachers), style of tutoring and any requirements for work between sessions.
Working proactively with students to make sessions enjoyable is crucial to success and I adapt my tutoring style to meet individuals` learning requirements.
I offer one- or two-hour sessions as desired to best meet students` needs.
