I am an enthusiastic, passionate former secondary school teacher who now works as a professional aerospace engineer. This means that I bring a wealth of experience of how maths and physics are used in the real-world for the research and development of aircraft. I graduated from the University of Warwick with Masters and Doctorate degrees in Engineering following which I trained as a teacher. During my time as a teacher I taught maths and physics to years 7 through to 13. Although I enjoyed my time teaching I decided to join industry in 2011 but have tutored since 2015. I really do enjoy that moment of realisation when a student who has struggled so much finally realises that they can be "good at maths"!
My tutoring experience began in 2015 both as a freelance tutor and working with Fleet tutors. I have mostly taught mathematics at KS4 and A-level but have had one or two students who required A-level Physics tuition. All of my students and their parents felt that I provided an excellent service and really helped to bring their maths/physics learning along! Curriculum-wise I have mostly taught to the EdExcel syllabus for maths (GCSE and A-level) but I have taught at least A-level maths student to OCR. For physics I taught to the OCR Physics A and Physics B syllabi.
I approach tuition by using regular assessment (at least once per term) to identify areas for improvement and this allows me to draw up a plan for the topics to be covered. Lessons are then planned to target these areas and to do this I use electronic resources as these are very clear and engaging. I regularly check understanding throughout the lesson to ensure the student has fully grasped each concept before moving on to the next one. If they do not understand the concept I will find a different way to explain it using a variety of techniques depending on the student`s learning style. For example, I find some students prefer me to talk a concept through verbally whilst others like a diagram. I do not rest until I`m happy a student is happy!
My style is agile so I will sometimes pause the topic being taught if I realise that there is an foundational area of weakness which needs consolidation. Above all else I maintain a relaxed teaching style to ensure the student remains relaxed as I`ve found this builds confidence. A stressed brain tends to shut down creative and problem solving faculties and so I encourage students with positive feedback (especially when they`ve made a mistake) in order for them to really build their confidence. I tend to find that learning follows quickly from there.
My feedback speaks for itself. All of the students I tutored which took exams in summer 2022 achieved their exam goals.

Adam is a superb maths tutor and has transformed our son`s confidence and enjoyment of Maths. An excellent, calm and friendly tutor who has proven to be an immeasurable bonus in our son`s lead up to his A Level exams. He has gone from a predicted D to an A grade student in one year`s tuition. We cannot thank Adam enough and would highly recommend him tp anyone considering extra Maths tuition for their child.

Adam tutored my son for GCSE maths for two years. He was kind, patient and really gave my son the confidence he needed to get through this exam. He was able to identify the gaps in his learning and adjusted what he was doing to suit his needs. Cannot recommend him highly enough!
