Information about Liz
English Language and Literature & Media Tutor for KS3, GCSE and A Level, ISEB common entrance examinations - kind, experienced and well-qualified.
I am a patient and committed teacher who is currently teaching in a Kent Grammar School. I have taught English in Kent schools for 20 years; I have frequently been graded as an outstanding classroom practitioner and I enjoy teaching lessons with ambitious, engaging content which are paced to match the abilities of my pupils. I have taught students from KS3, KS4 and 5 (Year 7-13) consistently exceeding my ambitious results targets. I have been both a Subject Leader and Director of Studies for KS3 and I have also tutored students at KS2 (primary level) for English and Reasoning Kent Test preparation.
Why do I achieve excellent results?
In my tutoring sessions, you can typically expect:
- An initial discussion with the student to discuss what they enjoy in English, where their areas of weakness are, how they like to learn, followed by a baseline assessment (not scary!) to look for areas which need support.
- Well-planned, structured sessions, tailored to the needs of each student, designed to support them with areas of weakness and improve their results and performance.
- A fun mixture of demonstration and worked examples, with lots of discussion and reassurance to check students understand new ideas, terminology and concepts.
- Quiet tine for students to work individually on tasks which checks their understanding of concepts we have covered together.
- Positive feedback and marking which discusses in an encouraging way any areas students have not understood: these are then reinforced in subsequent sessions or in homework.
- Frequent feedback to parents verbally and through a contact book which allows parents to see what we have covered in each session, as well as suggested homework tasks to extend learning. Sticker charts (and occasionally sweets!) for younger pupils and lots of praise and encouragement for all!

Liz has been really helpful in working with me to recognise and understand media language that stretches across the course and has really helped me condense my knowledge from case studies which will prove especially useful when reproducing them in essays.

My daughter has had two lessons and we are very pleased. Liz understands quickly where any problem lies and gives clarifying exercises that really help. She has been friendly, patient and has put my daughter at ease.
