Information about Alexander
My name is Alex. I am a keen and devoted Chemist and Mathematician. I have a First Class Degree in Chemistry where I received the MChem Prize. The MChem Prize was given to a Chemistry student with one of the highest overall marks in their studies.
I am accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry and have been given both the MRSC and AMRSC designations.
In addition to this, I have worked for a UK National Lab where I spent more than three years in scientific and mathematical modelling.
I can teach Chemistry to a degree level standard, Mathematics to a GCSE standard, and English a primary standard.
I am keen to meet students of all ages and international backgrounds.
Availability: I currently work with 9-10 students each week. Students tend to book more than 1 lesson per week. I am most busy on evenings and weekends. You are much more likely to get a booking if booking before 4 pm on a weekday, but please enquire if not (as I may have some availability).
Please bear in mind that I am a Tutor from the UK. If you are from a country other than the UK, please be aware of the time differences. I have worked with students from both Asia and South America.
I tend to work early mornings when teaching Asian students (from 8 am till 12 pm equal to 4 pm till 8 pm HK time), and later in the afternoon for South American students (12 pm till 4 pm equal to 8 am till 12 am La Paz).
If hesitant, please enquire, and I will see if I am available.
Willing to travel: 50 miles
Experience: I have taught and I am currently teaching a wide variety of students.
Within Mathematics, I teach from a primary level to a GCSE level. Currently, I teach an older student who is at GCSE. We are working towards getting her a Grade 7. I teach a variety of primary school children. I run classes for children aged 5-6 on the Y1 syllabus. I also teach Maths for the 11+ examinations. I have a KS3 Maths student from a top 10 UK school.
I am a skilled chemist. On TutorHunt, I have 3-4 A-level students, 2-3 degree level students and 2 GCSE level students. I have taught the OCR, Edexcel and AQA syllabi for both GCSE and A-level. I am also aware of the Welsh, international and Northern Irish equivalents such as WJEC and CIE. Topics I have taught include Hess`s Diagrams, Equilibrium, NMR (proton and C-13), Carbonyls, Aromatics, The Mole, The Ideal Gas Law, Molecular Orbitals, Hybridisation.
Before tutoring, I worked in a UK national lab. My expertise was in chemical equilibria. I built numerical solutions to complicated equilibrium problems. My experience required me to explain complex Mathematical Terminology to the General Public.
In addition to Chemistry and Maths, I teach primary English. I currently give Primary English reading classes to Y1 students. I help one student learn English for the 11+ examinations. I also teach English to South American students who are at a British-equivalent of Y3 and Y4 .

Alex is a good tutor. My daughter enjoys her lessons. I will highly recommend Alex as a Chemistry teacher.

For the first lesson, until Alexander started going into the subject (Chemistry) itself, I was present to see how it went. Alexander`s approached by letting the student (i.e. my son) to come by himself about the subject, how confident the student feels in Chemistry etc. before getting into his own analysis of understanding student`s needs, motivations, expectations and his own perception of how confident the student is at Chemistry etc. In another occasion, that I was (accidentally) present, when sub atomic level topic was being discussed and explained and a particular question raised my son required understanding of quantum (mechanics) behaviour at sub atomic level. I am very satisfied to hear that Alexander openly and honestly answered that he does not know and he believed is to do with quantum mechanics behaviour at sub atomic level, which is exactly the level a Chemistry specialist would have the knowledge for. Further, I think Alexander`s experience in the industry also comes in handy for providing perspective from the reality. So, if student is motivated and willing to learn, I believe Alexander`s approach, knowledge and way of teaching would get the best out of the student. As of September 2021, Alexander has been tutoring my son for about 5 - 6 months. I believe this feedback is fair and true representation of Alexander`s tutoring of Chemistry.
