Information about Allison
I am over the moon and so proud of how hard my students have worked over the last few years. My student success rate of passing (with a higher than expected grade) is 100% in both Language and Literature. I specialise in low to middle attainers. My 11 Plus students were also very successful all getting the schools they desired.
A bit about me...I am a highly qualified teacher with over 22 years of classroom teaching experience- I specialise in English and have an MS in special education and marriage family therapy. I am fun, upbeat, positive and I understand the needs of students today. I have taught all ages (primary and secondary schools) in 2 countries.
My goal is to make students comfortable with learning and trusting their inner abilities to do their best. I am respectful, patient and understand that each student has different needs in learning.
I have earned my teaching credentials and QTS status with outstanding results in two countries. I am well versed in teaching English specialising in secondary school GCSE English. I have worked with a plethora of GCSE students- several being English as a second language students. One particular student was in the UK for less than a year before taking the GCSE exams- having minimal English language and Literature knowledge- they worked incredibly hard, and achieved a 5 in language and a 7 in lit. Amazing. If there is a will there is a way.
In the USA, I was a mild-moderate Special Education teacher for students aged 5-18. As a teacher, I assessed SEN students-along with teaching English and Math to students that were diagnosed with Specific Learning Disabilities, Moderate Learning Difficulties, Aspergers, high functioning Autism, ADD, ADHD, Bi-Polar and students with mental health.
As a teacher, I hope to motivate, in a positive way. I aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to trust their own opinions while fostering confidence in order to realise their full potential. I aim for my students to have a safe learning environment that they enjoy to be in.
Availability: I am now taking bookings for AQA English GCSE. I specialise in lower to middle level attainers. I have a full English curriculum test prep ready to deliver- both Language and Literature. I tailor all lessons towards individual needs. My sessions include practise assessments with constructive marking.
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: My experience is vast..... Upon my arrival to England, my first teaching position included teaching students on behavioural contracts in the school behaviour unit, Years 7-11. These students were not eligible to attend classes within the mainstream population. In addition to teaching, I was responsible for coordinating special services and overseeing progress on personal goals and school behaviour discipline for students in danger of permanent exclusion.
My credentials of education include Qualified Teaching Status in the UK- English, a Masters of Science degree in Psychotherapy: Marriage Family Therapy, a Masters of Science degree in Special Education, Health teaching Credential, Cross Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) Credential, and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Dance.

Allison started in September with us and already has been a brilliant weekly support to my childs literacy needs. Lessons are focused on my childs gaps and areas of development. Allison brings lots of energy and encouragement. Allison recognises my childs achievements at each lesson and my child is always very happy afterwards. Weve been delighted with Allison.
