Information about Amanda

I like to engage students by building lessons around things they are interested in. I am not a strict person in the traditional sense, although I do expect students to put in effort. I strive to achieve a relaxed atmosphere in my tutoring and my ultimate goal is to help students develop the skills they need for life long learning.

Availability: I am currently busy after school and most evenings with sessions high school students and those preparing for GCSEs this summer. .
I do have availability in the early afternoon to support college students or adult learners.

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: Work Experience
I have 3 years experience of tutoring school children of all ages (4 - 16) in both maths and English. This includes supporting younger children with phonics and handwriting, and helping older students prepare for exams. I also have experience of helping children develop their creative writing skills through skill based projects. I have also helped students understand skills that they find tricky through targeted workshops.

I also have 2 years experience working with adults who are learning English as a second language. In these lessons I make use of all 4 skills, but place a focus on conversational English as this is what I have found beneficial to past students. I draw on my own experience of learning foreign languages to help adults build confidence in using what they know in day to day life.

Before becoming a tutor I worked for HM Prison and Probation service and for a mental health charity, so am able to work with a range of people and adapt to their unique style of communication and learning.

Qualifications
I have a 2:1 degree in Sociology and Criminology, and A-levels in Sociology, Psychology and Law. I hold 9 GCSE passes (grades C - A) including Maths, Science and English. I completed a 120 hour TEFL course in 2012 and I went onto achieve my CELTA in 2018. I also gained my DELE A2 for Spanish in 2017, meaning I can support GCSE students in developing their speaking skills and help younger students to start exploring the language.
