Information about Jolene

__-[UPDATE MARCH 2019: I am currently fully booked during the week. I am extremely sorry to anyone looking to get my help. I will update my profile as soon as I have spaces.]__-

__-[UPDATE JULY 2019: I am now reopening bookings for the summer and for next term as I have a few slots, especially if you are willing to come to me in the evenings (I live near the university). Please bear with me as I try to get through my back log of messages!]__-

Patient, determined, passionate and enthusiastic about earth sciences, maths, chemistry, physics and computer programming.

I cannot drive, so can only travel around Bristol using buses/on foot.

I can use a taxi if you are prepared to cover the costs, alternatively, there are plenty of spare study rooms at the university if you can get there, or a nice big desk in my home. Ask for more details!

I like to prepare ahead of time for sessions, and usually use the first hour to get to know each other, assess ability, and discuss what kind of teaching would best suit the tutee. This allows for much more tailored tutoring to the tutee`s needs as one method of teaching won`t necessarily work from student to student!

During sessions, I take notes which I always make available to the student, as well as providing copies of exam syllabuses, my own old revision notes if needed, and can get hold of exam papers as I like to use time at the end of sessions to do practice questions in each topic.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have now been a TutorHunt tutor for 2 years, and find it extremely rewarding. I have tutored a wide variety of students, from young children to GCSE learners up to adult learners, across a wide skill range from students from a completely non-science background, learners with difficulties, or who don`t enjoy or excel with `book-learning`, to excellent high-achieving students who want additional motivation and practice.

Currently, I am a PhD student in Physics at the University of Bristol and part of this role involves teaching and supervising undergraduate students.
Previously, I earned my 1:1 Masters degree in Environmental Geoscience at the University of Bristol.

Prior to that I was an A/A* student in Physics, Maths, Chemistry and Further Maths, as well as As or above in my GCSEs. I keep up to date currently with the GCSE Maths and Science syllabuses, with less experience tutoring outside of the STEM subjects that I took at GCSE (English, Drama, History etc). I have been asked to help with these subjects but I recommend finding a specialist subject tutor.

I have also helped young students and adult learners get a firm one-to-one introduction to computer programming.

I am a STEM Ambassador, each year I visit numerous primary schools and secondary schools and enjoy teaching and experimenting to get the conversation about science started at a young age.

Jolene was really helpful in my career transition into Data Science, seeing me through from independent study of the subject to a full-time Data Science role.
