There is a world of opportunities when thinking about and using the internet for teaching Englishas a foreign language. The COVID pandemic really emphasised the internet option of teaching. Itremoves the potential geographical barrier in terms of access to students from around the world. You could be teaching grammar to a student from China in one lesson, then the next lessonteaching someone writing skills from Brazil. It would be likely to develop you as much in teachingas it would with being more cultured. And if you wanted to teach full time, you could relocate toanother part of the world and teach online there. It is a real time saver too the office is at home.So many platforms exist for a teacher to find their students. And for students to find a teacher. Weall have to start from the beginning. Obtaining certifications and doing plenty of research. Maybewith many of your students you will find shared interests in hobbies and even professionally andthis can expand ideas for classroom/lesson activities. I think listening to podcasts is a really goodresource for new and even the advanced/seasoned teachers. Because we can never truly knoweverything. When it comes to teacher development Never stop learning , there are so many options too. From direct further development certifications, that come from many dedicated and reputablewebsites. To share experiences in forums for teachers. You can purchase resources online forlesson plans (I did this myself, from TEFL.org. And when your skill develops, maybe you will writeyour own lesson plans for yourself and for others. The options to cater to specific student needsare there. Maybe you would like to focus on teaching general language acquisition or English forbusiness. (This option I would recommend as it goes beyond what you initially may think of asteaching Business English) And you learn to think with so much variation in points of view. Creative abstraction are words that spring to mind!As time passes, And you have years of experience. You may wish to be a content creator yourself. And create a podcast to teach all the stages of English acquisition. There are podcasts of teacherscollaborating with each other. Think of it as the teacher`s canteen, or lounge . There are so manyways to make yourself be and feel part of the community. Why not consider having your ownYouTube channel too! We can teach many things for language acquisition on a variety of platforms.Visually, YouTube is one of a handful of the most well-rounded platforms you can use forpresentations. And the comment section helps with questions and answers. Or even for the optionof feedback for the teachers.I know Instagram has many dedicated pages to teaching English as a foreign language. The simplerand more colourful you make the page, the more interesting and insightful, for learning at anylevel, the more of a fanbase you will have. And the word will spread! There is no longer a mainsource. But a collective of resources to think outside the box with language teaching andacquisition. One option I have used in the past was a platform that is similar in layout to Facebook.Only it is dedicated to learning and teaching any language. You can use it as a testing platform forsome of your ideas. Currently I think one of the most interesting platforms that exists, and a waypeople can use it for language Teaching/learning, is LinkedIn. There are many interesting articlesthat would appeal to people Learning English for business that a teacher can create, and a studentcan learn.Using cloud storage to save teaching material has helped reduce the burden of needing a filingcabinet or having a messy desk. Being very organised and having what you need at your fingertipsmakes teaching so much more efficient. Your teaching timetables can be synced to all devices. Andwhen the latest trends for teaching happen, the fastest way to stay up to date is throughnotifications fromAs the internet, automation and AI continues with application development, I think eventuallythere will be an app or apps that do cross blending of content delivery from all the social mediaplatforms for efficiency purposes. The apps could use global positioning systems and machinelearning AI algorithms to deliver the varying types of content depending on your location. And thiscould give rise to a need for teaching English as a foreign language teachers create a lot of content.Maybe even a duplication of content for the idea to work.Having the option to email students study material and to assess and give feedback in a way that ismore efficient than yesteryear, is not a new concept but a very useful one. And if times arise forstudents to need examples of more difficult aspects from assignments. It s quick and easy to findmaterial and send a link to the students. The internet offers multiple file formats for varyingcontent to deliver a variety of assignments. Other tools exist that can automate a timetable for thisprocess too.The internet provides many options. But another option is that presentations can be done/usedlive from the internet to teach a class in the distance. And to share screens over the internet withstudents for the same purpose. At this stage, it appears as though the internet is limitless when itcomes to giving teachers an endless multitude of options for content delivery. Andupdating/editing material can be done quickly so that we can constantly modify content to suiteach student`s needs as required. This helps to keep things always relevant.Another option would be to create an open blog/webpage. And place a teaching syllabus there forstudents to use openly for free and give feedback to the teacher.
