Study Habits And The Home Environment

Focusing on study habits and the collective home environment, needs careful thought and often change. For example having a `word of the week` (or even month) stuck up on the fridge for the entire family can support the child in developing their vocabulary in a sustainable, fun and healthy way. Indeed families can use such methods as an opportunity to use the 11plus to counter the negative effects of excessive individualism that modernity can inculcate within our homes.

I recall the first time I started such a routine with my daughter. She was approximately five years of age when I exposed her to the word `ubiquitous` as our first `word of the week`. I took her through the process of learning the word definiton and then finding every opportunity during that week to use the word. I modelled the application of the word and also deliberately made mistakes in it`s usage - just so i could make the process light hearted and an opportunity to enjoy those precious moments of experiencing the empowerment of my daughter.
