A master of the subject can teach one thing from different angles, afterall they are the master of the subject! These are rare in my experience!

Accountancy is not difficult, however it demands that the learner is serious and it demands that the teacher explains it properly.

When I was training my mentors drilled it in us that studying must be done regularly especially when we are young and (usually) less experienced. They used to say, if you neglect your books for a day, they will neglect you for a week, if you neglect them for a week, they will neglect you for a month - and if you neglect your books for a month, then you have no hope! :) (They would smile), but it was no laughing matter!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE SERIOUS?

A serious learner will study regularly, they should study at least once every three days, this involves recapping and learning new content. Ideally, new content should be learnt daily, you will be surprised to witness how much we can learn by just learning one formula, one statement a day!

A serious learner is not shy of questioning, fore as the great professors used to say, if you are shy of questioning, you will be shy of learning. It is the job of the master to open the door of invitation for the learner.

PROCESS

Accountancy is full of rules and ways of doing things, which you must remember most accountants have ways of doing things and ways of remembering things, these can only be shared by those who have walked the path.

1) Study new content

2) Understand the content

3) Apply the content, using your notes, to questions (a starting point is to get it broadly right using your notes)

3a) repeat 3 if it was weak (less than 70%), do not move to step 4.

4) memorise the rule, if you have taken the first three steps seriously, you will most probably have retained much of step 1, memorise the gap.

5) Recipe for success in accountancy exams, know the rules and practice, practice and more practice!

If you think this is simple, you are correct, it certainly is not difficult, however it is only simple if you have command of your consciousness!

Command of your consciousness is nothing but discipline.
