As a student of GCSE or A level, you will come across many times to solve problems related to `straight line` topic. These problems could be either in subject of Mathematics or Physics. These problems make sense only if you know the parts of the straight line.

The equation of straight line can be written as y = mx + c . There are three important information that you can extract from this equation. Firstly, the x and y are the coordinates axes, which are used to plot a graph. Secondly, the `m` is the graident of the straight line. In plain English, a gradient is the steepness of a line. The steeper a line is, the more a gradeint is. For exmple, a staircase needs to be designed to help in climbing. it should make atleast an angle of 45 degree with the base (ground). If it is more than recommended angle, then a climbing person will either fall or have difficulty in climbing. Therefore steepness (gradient) is an important factor of the straight line equation. Lastly, the symbol `c` in the straight line equation refers to the point where it crosses or touches the y-axis. For example, in case of straicase, the top end should meet a wall or a beam in the building.
