Vulgar Fractions: Doesn't it sound rude? Actually not as our larger understanding of vulgarity is related to movies and whenever we think something is lacking sophistication or not in good taste, we call it vulgar. However its actual meaning is common or general use or done as a matter of everyday practice.

A vulgar fraction is one based on ordinary or everyday arithmetic as opposed to decimal things. It refers specifically to one in which two whole numbers (the numerator and denominator) are placed above and below a horizontal line. Neither part can be zero.

Now as we are aware of the true meaning of vulgar, let's not use it as a synonym of common else people will call us silly, which originally meant 'deserving of pity' and then translated to 'ignorant' and now unfortunately termed as 'foolish'.
