Information about Wayne
I am a freelance writer of fiction and literary criticism (published in The Guardian, Observer, Time Out, Tank, and international literary magazine, Wasafiri) and in 2013 I had my first book published by Transworld: Dedicated To... (a collection of inscri ptions found inside second-hand books) which received some very nice national press.
Literature is my passion and I strongly believe it is best taught with enthusiasm, thereby making it more accessible and less intimidating. Once a basic understanding of the work has been achieved it is easier to explore the more complex themes such as character, imagery, dramatic arc, etc.
In 2018 I was shortlisted for the Comma Press and the University of Central Lancashire`s first annual Dinesh Allirajah Prize for Short Fiction. In 2017 I was longlisted for the Bare Fiction Short Story Award. I am currently compiling a literary anthology as well as writing a collection of short-stories. I also co-run the Tufnell Park Film Club.
I have a degree in English Literature from the University of East Anglia where I also studied Creative Writing.
Availability: I am freelance and so am able to be very flexible with my time.

Experience: I have been tutoring since 2014. As well as editing and tutoring creative writing for mature students, I have tutored a wide range of English Literature texts for both OCR and AQA boards (GCSE and A-Level). I have a very wide knowledge of literature in general and am able to research new texts quickly and thoroughly.

Wayne has been working with my son for a few weeks now, leading up to year 12 A level English mocks and he has been an enormous help. My son is not very confident with academic studies and has really not enjoyed the texts that his school have chosen but Wayne has opened a door for my son to discuss and discover the books. Wayne has given my son encouragement and confidence. My son feels on the same "wavelength" as Wayne and this has been important. We will definitely continue to work with Wayne and I can thoroughly recommend him as a tutor. Thank you Wayne.

Wayne is an excellent and supportive tutor who is working with our 9 year old son on English and creative writing for the 11+ exams. Despite the online nature of lessons at the moment, Wayne quickly established a fantastic rapport with our son and is clearly someone who teaches from a place of connection with his students. My son is looking forward to the lessons and is inspired to improve his writing and take Wayne`s suggestions on board.

Only a few weeks in to sessions, but my daughter already talking more confidently about her English work. Wayne is an excellent tutor! I was on track to get a B in my A Level and thanks to Wayne I achieved an A*. He was so committed to helping me that he read all of the texts I was studying and made meticulous notes for us to discuss. He is also great at recommending books and films etc and takes a genuine interest in his students. Wayne really helped me to build confidence in my creative writing too and I’m so grateful for his sessions. I’ve now come out of my A Levels with a passion for English which I really didn’t have at GCSE and I’ve been able to transfer these skills into other aspects of my life. I highly recommend him!
