Experience: I have been working with young people both nationally and internationally over the past 8 years. I am very aware of adapting different methods and approaches to enthuse a student about their subject matter. This has stemmed from working on countless outreach projects with young people from varying backgrounds and physical and mental abilities. My experience of organizing and delivering English lessons to people of differing ages, group sizes and prior knowledge with excellent success highlights my attentive and fervent approach when communicating subject matter.

For English I will focus on increasing vocabulary, improving comprehension skills and creative writing.
For GCSE English Literature and Language in particular I will work through the texts being studied for coursework, working through drafts of the coursework together, improving the necessary analytical skills required for English. For the second year of the English GCSE, we will work through the set texts in further detail, exploring the characters, key themes and technical devices within the text. We will also learn how to approach poetry and the deconstruction of devices within the poems to in order to create well-constructed arguments with a clear technical understanding within the essays. We will look at how to analyse exam questions, plan essays effectively, structure essays, how to write an introduction, the main body of an essay and the conclusion. Closer to the exams we revise the key texts and practice exam techniques with close attention to timings. We will also work on spelling, punctuation, grammar and technical literary terms.

For AS-Level and A2-Level I will always make sure the structure of the sessions are catered toward dissecting and discussing the texts in order to gather a strong personal response and understanding, whilst improving their close reading techniques. I will always focus on how the student can achieve the grade higher to what they have been predicated by exploring techniques and detail needed to improve your grade. It is fundamental to score as highly as possible in the coursework so this is our initial focus through the research of context, critics` viewpoints and always ensuring that close textual analysis is included. I am a stickler for detail and so will work through each sentence of the students’ essays in order for them to understand where and how they can improve.

I focus on working through past papers with a very concise knowledge of the marking schemes in order to understand what the examiner is looking for.
