Information about Sally
As an ex-teacher and parent, I have a good understanding of what young people face in today's education system. I realise that for a variety of reasons, learning in school may not always be easy, leading to a lack of confidence and hence, motivation. I want to help such youngsters increase their confidence and be successful. I am a conscientious and reliable person who fully understands the expectations of students and their parents.
I am 56 years old, married for 35 years with two daughters who have completed their education through to degree level. I enjoy working with young people and am friendly and approachable with a sense of humour. I believe I understand others’ needs and strive to take a sensitive approach.
After assessing my student's needs in their first free session, I tailor lessons carefully to address areas of difficulty. I vary teaching methods, offering a range of activities and keeping the pace of sessions brisk. My aims are to build a good relationship with my students, build confidence, increase their knowledge of language and develop skills vital to successful communication.
I would prefer to tutor in my own home but am prepared to travel.
Availability: Week days, week day evenings and Saturdays.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have taught English and English Literature for 31 years to students aged 11 to 18 years. I have successfully taught students in mixed ability classes and in sets across the ability range. After retiring from classroom teaching in December 2009, I have given several students, struggling to meet their target levels at Key Stage 3, one-to one tuition.
