Information about Andi

I am a qualified and experienced tutor in both central Cambridge with over 15 years of experience teaching GCSE, AS, A level in sixth forms and F.E. colleges.

I work full time as a professional private tutor and education specialist, one benefit of working independently is that I am able to competently deliver tutoring on a range of syllabi: I support students following the AQA, OCR, IB and Pre-U courses, as well as IGCSE. I am able to ensure comprehensive coverage of the correct content, as well as exam skills required by the specific exam board.

My hourly rate includes an additional 15 minutes per session for any marking or additional support needed (for example, I offer resources relevant to each exam board should there be any gaps in notes.) I also answer student questions during their courses via email (for example, should they be revising and need guidance o what to include in an exam answer). I am also able to support students with their personal statements for their UCAS applications and can provide references when needed.

During the summer I teach on residential schools in Cambridge for international students. I also have several students working to improve on their year one grades, many of whom are required to improve them significantly to continue studying their courses at college.

From my teaching experience, I bring a real understanding of the education system and our students experiences within it. I choose to work as a private tutor, as this is where I am able to use my skills knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to greatest effect.

I believe it to be the most valuable work I have done to date, this is because our education system as it stands struggles to provide the education needed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for further study. In addition to this, many students have a range of issues which impact on their studies, with which they need support: a one-to-one learning situation is really the only way to gain an in-depth understanding of these issues and offer genuine and effective support.

I work in with my students and identify the learning needs of each. If there are issues which impact on their learning in any way, I seek to support them with these. I strongly believe that learning takes place within the context of individuals lives, it is not a separate activity, and therefore life issues influence the learning process.

I have worked successfully with students who have ADD, dyslexia, are on the ASD, as well as students with mental health issues including anxiety, OCD and substance dependency, as well as physical health and chronic conditions, In addition to this I work with students with low self-esteem, low confidence and low motivation.

I also deliver psychology for international summer schools based in Cambridge and often take on additional interesting and exciting educational projects offered.

I am experienced in tutoring one-to-one and offer on-going tutorials specifically tailored to your course, intensive revision sessions, exam skills focused sessions, or develop sessions which focus on other areas or skills as required.

I offer a friendly and supportive student centred, collaborative learning sessions, supported by excellent subject knowledge, tailored to your course and your requirements/needs.

Currently, I am working with students on a one to one basis, three of whom I am delivering the whole psychology course to, and am their sole psychology teacher, as opposed to their tutor supporting their psychology A level within a college.

I offer a range of services which include:

On-going one to one tutoring which supports in school/college study.

The delivery of the entire A level course, whether in person or online (please note that my rates for his are different due to my increased responsibility and workload#0

One off, or a fixed number of revision or support sessions for an exam, and assignment, or a specific topic area, both in real life or virtually

Virtual `drop-in` sessions online works by students booking a slot with me for a set amount of time. I base the session on whatever they need help with at the time, which can be with specific topics and or skills or more revisional or focused on exam questions, whatever is required, so please do get in touch if you think this might suit you.

My tutoring service is growing, and I now offer small group revision workshops and summer schools.

I am also working with final year undergraduate students supporting their research projects and dissertations.

With me, you can develop skills, as well as extend your knowledge, and add depth to your understanding of the material. I can help you develop strong analytical, and critical skills, as well as research and report writing skills. I can also build essay writing skills.

This means I can enable you to improve your grades and equip you with skills that will benefit other academic areas, as well as giving you the tools to competently and confidently enter higher education.

I am calm and patient, will help to build your confidence and motivate you, if you need it.

I am also employed by virtual education, for whom I develop online courses, and deliver psychology to schools & colleges throughout the country.

Availability: I currently have availability for students who require on-going / weekly tutoring, although, as I am nearing being `full` I am less flexible in what time slots I can offer.

Due to the nature of virtual and online work, I am able to offer greater flexibility with days and times for these options.

Many of my current students will have extra sessions over the Easter period, so I am happy to take on new students who may just want extra sessions during that period,.

Many of my students also book two-hour sessions, and if there is a lot to be covered, or a lot of support required, this may be advisable as exams start in May.

Before, if appropriate, and during the first session, I find out what your specific requirements are, what issues may have affected your studying so far, and what you hope to cover / achieve. I usually get to know you by looking at your evaluation skills, research methods knowledge and exam knowledge and skills. From there I make a `progression plan` so that we can see how we are going to cover what we need to cover, and will keep you informed with updates about the progress you are making.

I am very happy to receive e-mails or have phone conversations with parents if helpful, and feel that the more I know the more effective I can be.

Please note if a session is cancelled with 24 hours or less notice, the full fee is still payable. If it is cancelled with 48 hours or less notice, than half the fee is payable.

Experience: I am an experienced and qualified teacher with 15 years experience teaching GCSE, AS, A level in sixth forms and F.E. colleges.

The sixth form college at which I worked previously ,and the psychology department specifically , was consistently rated as `Outstanding` by OFSTED, was a Beacon College, and received the Queens Award for excellence.

I have worked as a mentor to new teachers, and as a DASA observer providing feedback and guidance to established teachers and have also been an assistant examiner.

I am also experienced in teaching within adult education, including Birkbeck College London, and have designed and written courses for adult education providers.

On average A level students who work with me achieve 2 grades higher than they have previously be obtaining.

Excellent support provided by Andi for my daughter who was struggling with sociology. Andi explains things clearly, helps with exam techniques and she has sent loads of additional resources to help. I would definitely recommend.

Andi is a fantastic tutor! Not only is she a great teacher, but she has wonderful interpersonal skills and has helped my son gain confidence in his ability to do well in psychology. I am very happy that I engaged her services and recommend her to anyone who is in need of a great psychology tutor.

Fantastic tutor!!
Andi is great at spotting gaps in my understanding and explaining concepts in a way that makes them make sense.
She also brought in someone with specialist knowledge of the aspect I was seeking to understand.
I highly recommend Andi

My son was struggling with Psychology A level and was on the point of not wanting to sit the exams. I contacted Andi as I was at a loss as to what to do, and she was so helpful. Given the times scale she had (less than 3 months!) she focused alot on exam and revision techniques.
My son got on with Andi really well and enjoyed his tutorials with her. She soon identified his strengths and weaknesses and was able to motivate him. My son got his results last week and he did gain his Psychology A level, albeit a low grade but without Andi`s help he would not have achieved a grade at all. She worked wonders with him! My only regret is that I didn`t look into getting a tutor until very late in the day. With hindsight I wish we had done it last September. I can`t recommend Andi highly enough. She really knows the subject and the exam board and has a great rapport with the student.

I have been working with Andi for quite some time now, I began with her after attaining a D and a E in As Psychology. After weekly sessions I went on to achieve an A and a C which meant overall I gained a B. In just a few short months Andi boosted me up three grades!!

She is an excellent teacher, who has vast amounts of patience. She is calm and allows me to feel at ease and I have gained much confidence since working with her. This has helped me throughout all of my A-levels.

I would strongly recommend her to anyone who is taking Psychology at A-level. I have continued to use her knowledge throughout my A2 due to my success at AS.
I have been very pleased with her attitude and flexibility during our sessions and I feel starting with her was the best decision I made!

Again, I would strongly recommend Andi to all Psychology students- it will not be a decision you regret!!

Andi tutored me for about 6 months in 2011, and it was definitely one of the best decisions I`ve ever made.

I was disappointed with my AS results in 2010 (I achieved two D`s in the AS papers), and I had to resit in January 2011...Andi tutored me for a few short weeks prior to these exams, and I achieved two B`s, which is such a remarkable difference.

And when it came to my 2011 A2 exams, which my University place depended on, I achieved two A`s in these psychology papers, which basically means within a few months of weekly tutoring, she brought me up by four grades, which is absolutely remarkable. I got my place at Leeds University to study English and Linguistics (and believe it or not, a couple of elective modules in psychology, and my main specialism being psycholinguistics and language processing), and I really couldn`t have done it without her.

Psychology A-level is a difficult subject, which requires high order thinking, excellent exam technique and ideas which will stand you ahead from the thousands of other candidates for this exam...Anyone who is taking a qualification in psychology, Andi is the best person to tutor you. She helped me achieve my grades through teaching exam technique, really engaging me with the material and helping me in all areas that I struggled.

Not only did she help me with achieving my grades at A-level, the skills she has taught me have helped me so much throughout my degree level.

If you`re taking psychology and you haven`t already signed up for tuition from Andi...Do something wise and sign up today!
