Information about Julia

I have been successfully tutoring for a number of years now, and it`s my favourite part of education, as it`s really rewarding to see the rapid progress that can be achieved by working one-to-one. Typical situations are:
- GCSE students who find themselves with D grades (in England: grade 3) after mock exams, and are aiming for a B (grade 5/6) or higher;
- students who are achieving top grades in all their subjects except English;
- students aiming for a C (grade 4/5) grade but struggling to get there without some extra help;
- students wishing to take an IGCSE in English which isn`t offered by their school.

I qualified to teach secondary English and History in 1999, and before then I was a postgraduate tutor to undergraduates. Since qualifying I have worked in secondary schools in England and Wales, as well as a middle school where I taught upper primary children. I have also taught English as an additional language to children and adults of many nationalities.

I have tutored many students now from schools in Chester, Wrexham, Flintshire and the Wirral. I have been honoured to share in their success stories, especially on Results Day in August, when it`s always lovely to hear from students who have surpassed their predicted grades and their own expectations.

Each session will be tailored to your needs: this could be basic literacy, improving essays, preparing for exams, and getting to grips with texts and terminology. I have a wealth of resources and past papers, and am patient and understanding.

Availability: Evenings during term-time; any time during holidays by prior arrangement. Weekends.

Willing to travel: 12 miles

Experience: Qualified teacher of English for over fifteen years with great success at GCSE and AS/A level. I have also taught English as an additional language. I have worked with years 5 to 13. I have tutored online, worked for Channel 4`s Homework High tutoring service, and have contributed to published study guides, eg for CGP. I have also taught at Easter revision schools. I am an exam marker for WJEC, AQA and Edexcel(Pearson).

Julia tutored all 3 of my sons in English Literature and she was fantastic. She got the best out of them and they enjoyed her sessions. They all got A stars for English literature, thanks to Julia.

Julia is a brilliant tutor. My daughter has just achieved A*s in both English Language and English Literature igcse with Julia`s help. Julia is a senior examiner with an exam board and she guided my daughter through the pitfalls of the exam papers, making sure she did not loose marks in parts of the paper that usually catch students out. Julia is a very professional, wonderful tutor and I would highly recommend her.

Julia has tutored my daughter for the last 8 months. She is an absolutely brilliant tutor and has helped my daughter achieve A* in both English Language and English Literature. Julia is very professional and can guide the student so well as she is a senior examiner with an exam board. She knows where students typically loose marks in a paper and teaches them how to avoid this. Brilliant tutor.
