Information about Filipa
Lecturer in Politics and Economics of the EU at a top London university, and also a very experienced private tutor in Politics, Economics, Sociology, Political Economy and EU studies. I specialise in helping university, A-level, International Baccalaureate (IB) and adult students.
In May 2017 and May 2016, I was nominated for an award for outstanding teaching by the students` un ion at my university.
I hold a PhD in Political Economy from Utrecht University (including one year as an Affiliate Student in the Political Science department of UCL), a Masters in European Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, and a degree in Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE).
Teaching is an activity that I deeply enjoy, and for which I have great enthusiasm. The feedback which I received from students I taught in the past was very positive, and has further increased my desire to continue teaching. In particular, I was told that my teaching had inspired students, and had made complex subjects appear simple and interesting.
My approach to teaching is results-focused. I first discuss with the student what are his/her objectives (this may be achieving top marks at a final exam, being able to undertake exercises given as homework, or increasing their understanding of certain aspects of a subject). We then devise together a work plan, to ensure that the student meets those goals.
This approach has been very successful in the past, as it is not only important to understand a certain subject, but also to be prepared for the particular type of examination or assessment that the student will need to face.

Filipa is a really knowledgeable and friendly tutor. She is clear when explaining political and economic concepts that can be difficult to understand. She gave great support for my dissertation and constructive feedback.
