I am a native French speaker and have been a full-time French tutor for 6 years. I am a very motivated tutor and I want to help you succeed in learning French properly.
I graduated from Brest University ( Brittany) where I passed a degree (Deug)-similar level to a BA in England- in English and American Literature,English grammar, linguistics,Phonetics, translation from English into French and vice-versa. The degree also included American and English History.I successfully completed the course PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)(Level 4)at Strode College, Somerset, 2013.
I studied Philosophy and French literature up to the Baccalaureat in Brittany.I am passionate about French and English Literature.I speak and write a good standard of English and French.
I have been a French tutor for over 6 years now and I enjoy it very much.
I focus on clear, easy and efficient methods to help students speak and understand French with confidence and be understood by others. I efficiently help teenagers improve their grades for GCSE French and A levels. I am patient and non-judgemental of the levels and abilities of my students.
For me repetition is an important key to learning a language above all in the early stages. I help students with their pronunciation and understanding of grammar. I do recommend that students do their homework regularly to progress.I have an up-to-date DBS (CRB).
Sarah and Richard from Shepton Mallet wrote this to me on 19/09/2017:
We have been working with Annie for three years now and really enjoy our sessions with her. We are a couple who studied French at GCSE and A level many years ago and who now spend a lot of time in France on holiday. We wanted to brush up on our French in order to converse with the locals and get more out of our visits to France. Annie is great and allows you to find your own pace whilst paying attention to grammar and helping increase your knowledge of the language. She speaks French very clearly, making it easier to understand. We have used a number of text books as reference points in our sessions to increase our vocabulary and to understand verbs, tenses and conjugations. We are now more confident when speaking French and continue to improve. Thank you Annie.

We can thoroughly recommend Annie. We started lessons with Annie to improve our school-level French and to be better at conversation when in France. She prepares very well and for us the combination of conversation and the use of a text book has been the right approach. It has helped us to refresh our basic grammar which we have found very useful. Finally the lessons, which she tailors to your interests and requirements, are very enjoyable.
This is from William, Millfield student,Somerset who wrote to me on 24/08/2017 after receiving his results for his French IGCSE:
I would just like to thank you for helping me with my French as I felt much more confident before taking the exam and I hope that my result reflects all of the hard work. You have been so kind and patient with me and I wish you all the best in the future.
Thank you again.
Anne from Wales: "I would highly recommend Annie as a tutor to anyone learning French. She really knows her stuff and not just as a native French speaker but as a teacher who is tuned in to where a learner has problems and knowledge gaps. She is very helpful in supplying the information that you don`t get in the textbooks and in providing insights into both written and spoken French. Add to that friendliness and a sense of humour and you have everything you could ask for in an expert language tutor."
Kate from Blagdon in Somerset:
"Annie has a natural talent for teaching her native tongue. However, she backs this up with a useful knowledge of grammatical terms and rules, whilst also ensuring that the student is `au fait` with colloquial French, both spoken and written. She has a knack of emphasizing the positive and endless patience when it comes to ensuring that the student has fully understood the point, as well as forgiving when s/he has (I have) forgotten it once again! Annie is both reasonable and flexible with a warm personality and a nice sense of humour. I have not a moment`s hesitation in recommending that she become your French teacher if you are based in or near Glastonbury."
Also Rosie from Wells:"Annie is a very good French teacher, she is kind, smart, patient. My French has improved after a few lessons and I really look forward to our next session together".

Experience: My experience involves working with adult and teenage students. Sessions are tailored to the specific needs of students such as someone needing to speak French for work. So far I have helped students with IGCSE, GCSE, AS, A LEVELS, this involves explaining from scratch the main points of grammar and guiding their pronunciation so students can perform better for oral and listening exams.I spend time carefully preparing sessions with the view of increasing the fluency of students. I have helped AS students to study Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. I chose excerpts from the novel and prepared questions for the student. When we meet, in addition to going through the prepared questions and analysis, I focus on the pronunciation, grammar and spelling plus vocabulary. I truly enjoy seeing my students improve their confidence in spoken and written French, I also provide tips regarding modern spoken French. I used to teach French to my daughter and I still teach English to my nieces. I also teach French for beginners. I find that it is important to have a good grasp of grammar so the first lessons focus on this subject but at the same time I correct students on their pronunciation to give them a good start. I am aware that everyone is different and consequently I tend to teach according to the needs of each student. When I was a student in France I used to teach English to adults in preparation for their visits to English speaking countries.
I was a volunteer for the Alliance française in Seattle for which I gave tours in French to adult American students .
