I was one of two students to be the first ever to complete a new degree called "Physics with Science Education" at Imperial College London. This was a combined degree leading to a Physics BSc and a Qualified Teacher Status after only three years at university, making me the youngest teacher ever to have a Physics BSc degree at 21 years old. I`ve since completed my first year of teaching at Holland Park School, one of the best comprehensives schools in the country. I have just completed my second year of teaching at The Henrietta Barnett School, a selective all-girls grammar school and one of the best state schools in the country. I am now starting a Masters in Computer Science at UCL in September.
I have a keen interest in gaming and designing and developing games, which is what I plan to go into after furthering my own education. I enjoy many aspects of technology, especially in relation to computers, smartphones, and the new upcoming wearable technology. I am an avid photographer and I enjoy doing graphic design in my spare time. I also go rock-climbing on a regular basis. I love being out and about in general, regardless of whether it`s in the mountains or around the buzzing London city or in a peaceful green park somewhere, but I also really enjoy just sitting in a Costa and passing the time being on my laptop or reading.
Being only 23, I am very connected to the current A-level system from both a student and teacher perspective. I remember what it was like being in sixth form and the pressures of exams and university applications. But having also trained from a teaching perspective, I am able to offer the best of both worlds. I am young and connected enough for students to feel comfortable treating me as just a person tutoring them, which helps establish a good connection__ a vital point for a successful tutoring relationship.
I am able to offer tuition for:
Physics/Engineering university preparation__ especially Oxbridge, including PAT and interview preparation
A-level Maths and Further Maths
Availability: Very available in August.
Limited availability in September.
I can commit to continuous regular sessions in the evenings or on weekends from October onwards.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have tutored for the last 6 years, mostly with secondary school students. My main strength lies in A-level preparation, where I have extensive experience working on a one-to-one basis with students of all abilities, from those applying to Oxbridge to others who struggled to achieve a C.Contact this Tutor
I believe in a tutoring technique which ensures the student truly and thoroughly understands the content of the material, so that they can consistently apply their knowledge to any situation and be successful. I will first ensure understanding by taking students through a concept and then getting them to apply these ideas to simple problems. Only when they are totally confident with this concept do we then move on to applying the ideas to more complex situations. At A-level, especially in Physics, those who do not truly understand the content will not be successful in the exam__ you cannot fluke your way into a decent grade by chance. I teach effectively by helping students work out a solution for themselves, using techniques of probing questions and interesting examples and analogies, to ensure complete confident and understanding.
I also teach the comprehensive skills of exam technique, to ensure that each student can get the most out of any exam they sit. I will suggest learning and revision strategies to maximise what students gain out of time they spend studying independently. I am also happy to set and mark homework as part of this service, so that students are still able to connect with the subject outside of tutoring sessions. (Of course, if you don`t wish for this process to be quite so formal that is also fine__ whatever you are comfortable with.)
I am also very interested in helping students prepare for their university applications. Working as a sixth-form tutor in my previous schools, I have helped many students decide on their options, research universities and courses, and show them further reading and events that they can participate in to find out more about what they are interested in. I have also worked with a number of students preparing them for Oxbridge entrance I am very familiar with the admissions procedures to Oxbridge and am able to do extensive admissions and interview preparation for Oxbridge and any other Russell Group university.
