Information about Alex

I am in my final year of my doctoral studies in the physics department at the University of Bath. I have had an interest in teaching from a very early age and find it very rewarding. My teaching style is quite laid back which puts students at ease and, in my opinion, this promotes a much healthier way of approaching learning and revision. Preparing for exams can be incredibly stressful and I believe my approach allows students to enter their exams in a much more confident manner than some other methods of teaching people use.

Availability: I am primarily available during the week for both afternoon and evening tutoring sessions but am flexible for morning and weekend sessions as well. Ideally these sessions would be held on the University of Bath campus.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: Throughout my undergraduate degree I worked as a private tutor alongside my studies. During this time I taught a wide range of students from various backgrounds and at varying levels of knowledge. As part of my tutoring Prior Park College regularly provided me with students that required a little extra help to get through their A-Levels and the staff their were pleased with the results their students achieved. On average the students I have taught have been working at around a D grade when I have started and all have achieved a B grade as a minimum, many received A`s and A*`s.
During my postgraduate studies I have gained a lot of teaching experience through working as a postgraduate demonstrator. I have taught in both the 1st and 2nd year lab classes, a variety of problems classes and I have also redeveloped and run a final year computational physics course. The feedback I have received from students has always been positive, and in general has resulted tin some students accepting final year projects working directly with me. This teaching experience has also given me a great insight into the best ways of marking work and giving out tailored feedback to help students improve as they progress through their degrees.

Alex is a great tutor to all three of my sons (12-16yrs). He adapts his teaching style accordingly and works alongside them through the questions, encouraging them to work through and consider before answering. His easy going nature and reassurance also promotes their confidence and engagement. They look forward to his sessions and are clearly understanding their topics much better as a result of Alex`s teaching style and impressive communication techniques.

An excellent tutor, He has very good subject knowledge and the ability to make topics easily understandable. He was always on time and well prepared for sessions, and he put it time outside of sessions to prepare model solutions. I would highly recommend him as a tutor. And he`s a really nice guy to boot.
