Information about Gina

I am a passionate English Literature and Language teacher offering 1-1 or small-group tuition, either face-to-face or online, working with KS1 to KS4 students. I can also offer other subjects as required at KS1 or KS2.
All tuition is bespoke; I tailor each session to students’ specific needs. I have a breadth of experience with a range of special educational and social needs.
My tuition provides a nurturing, safe learning environment where students feel secure and able to take risks in their learning, developing their resilience and active learning skills, thus accelerating understanding and progress, and embedding skills.
I have an active DBS and keep up to date with child protection and safeguarding training.

I have many hobbies, such as: reading, films, theatre, music (both playing/singing, as well as going to live music events), walking, nature, gardening, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

Availability: Currently, I am also working as a supply teacher in a secondary school, so am limited to only being able to deliver sessions after school, although I hope to be able to deliver tuition soon.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have taught English at KS2-KS4 levels for nearly 20 years in mainstream secondary and middle schools. 16 of those years were as Head of English - in my first HoD role, I improved the English outcomes at GCSE from 14% to over 50% in three years; 8 years were as part of the Senior Leadership Team where I led several whole-school-improvement projects, including improving outcomes for PP pupils (this was part of my NPQSL project; PP pupils performed better academically than their non-PP peers as a result of this project); I also did two years as Head of Years 7 & 8, where I developed my understanding of SEMH and agencies involved around children with specific needs. I have a breadth of experience working with children with a range of educational and emotional needs (SEMH, anxiety, autism, Asperger`s, ADD, ADHD, hearing and visual impairments, Down Syndrome, dyslexia, dyspraxia, global development delay, multi-sensory, OCD to name some).
Whilst teaching, I have tutored three pupils who kept failing their English GCSE (or their mock exams in the lead-up to their GCSEs) - all three achieved grade C/grade 5 or above.
I have now given up my teaching role to become a private tutor.
