I am a young and dynamic freelance musician working in the Norwich area where I sing daily as a member of the Cathedral Choir. I hold two professional diplomas in piano as well as bachelors and masters degrees in Music from Oxford and Yale universities. My areas of specialism are piano, music theory (classical and pop), composition and GSCE/A Level music.
Availability: Evenings (except Thursdays) and afternoons preferred but I am flexible.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have eight years of experience giving private piano tuition to all ages and abilities. My approach is based on the belief that accomplished musicians must develop their craft from many different angles. A solid technical foundation is a vital priority, but I combine this with a wide survey of the repertoire and an encouragement of improvisation and aural skills so that a pupil`s musical imagination can be broadened and enlivened. Full preparation for ABRSM exams is also provided if appropriate.Contact this Tutor
If students want to bring more of a pop focus to their piano playing I am very happy to develop that and have a wide experience playing in piano and pop bands.
As an an ensemble singer I have worked with collegiate and Cathedral choirs at the highest level, first at Merton College Oxford and later with the Yale Schola Cantorum and Norwich Cathedral Choir. My teaching emphasises the development of secure breath support, alleviation of tension in the throat and full use of head resonators to achieve a full and healthy sound. Whilst my background is in classical singing, I offer advice to pop and jazz singers who want to achieve greater technical control. Due to my background, my teaching can be particularly helpful for enthusiastic choral singers looking to increase vocal ease, health and resonance.
In addition, I offer extra tuition for students preparing for Music Theory exams (grades 1-8) and GSCE/A Level exams in Music.
