Information about Huw

After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of Manchester, Huw quickly gravitated towards education. As a proven tutor of 7+ years, and classroom teacher of over 4, his rich experience enables him to bring his subject to life, and teach for a pure, relational understanding in Mathematics. Huw’s teaching philosophy is in building a solid foundational knowledge before moving to advanced concepts, and enjoys demonstrating the links between Mathematics and real-world problems. In a world where technical ability is becoming more demanding, Huw understands how to communicate difficult concepts in clear, logical steps, and imbue a love of problem solving.

After completing the rigorous two-year leadership development program through TeachFirst, he has found his niche as Key Stage 4 coordinator at an ‘Outstanding’ rated school in Richmond. He has a deep knowledge of the syllabus, specialising in best-in-class exposition techniques for grade 7/8/9 topics, and has seen his pupils attain over more than 20 grade 9’s during his 4 years, and an overall performance level >95% grade 9-7.

Although he excels in pushing students, he has a wealth of experience in supporting students who are learning difficulties including ASD, ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia. With his warm character, and friendly spirit, Huw has the ability to instill confidence within pupils, too let them see their own potential, and inspire them to work with purpose and belief towards academic success.

His interests outside of the classroom include sports, music and literature. He believes in ongoing personal development and is currently teaching himself the basics of coding, and research into the fields of data science, behavioural science, and psychology.
