Information about Federica

My name is Federica, I am an enthusiast italian violinist. I am a full-time postgraduate student at Guildhall School of Music and Drama where I am currently attending the second year. I also hold an old-system degree in performance from the Verdi Conservatory of Music in Milan.

I decided to move to London and leave my work in Italy to study with the outstanding teacher Simon Fischer, as I was fascinated by his books, his way of teaching, his incredible dedication to the analysis of every aspect of violin playing. The outstanding concept I learned is that everything about the violin can be explained and understood to express emotions with ease through music. Having the opportunity to transmit the amazing gift of playing an instrument and create music is one of my highest goals and fulfilments in life.

I performed at the Barbican Center with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra under the conductors Roberto Gozales Monjas and Dominic Wheeler, and I regularly attend repertoire orchestra sessions with members of the London Symphony Orchestra

In October 2018, I won the audition to get into the Italian Youth Orchestra, with whom I undertook an intense concert season playing under the guidance of conductors such as Daniele ,Gianna Fratta, Pierre-André Valade, Jeremiè Rhorer, Luciano Acocella, and Alexander Lonquich. On the 1st June 2019 I played with the Italian Youth Orchestra under the direction of Marco Angius at the Quirinale Palace in the presence of the Italian Republic’s President Sergio Mattarella.

In September 2018 I was selected to perform as the soloist for Mozart’s 5th Concerto K219 with the Symphony Orchestra of Lario under the guidance of Maestro Pierangelo Gelmini. I performed as a soloist in Vivaldi `s Estro Armonico in the Verdi Hall of the Milan Conservatory under the direction of Ottavio Dantone, and in Bach`s fifth Brandenburg Concerto in the Church of Saint Maurizio in Milan as part of the Cantor Cafe project.

I played at the Ars Lituanica Summer Festival in Vilnius in both a duo and quartet setting.

From 2014 to 2018 I was the concertmaster of the Pizzetti Youth Orchestra that I founded and managed.

I performed in Budapest in collaboration with the students of the Liszt Academy, with the Orchestra and ";Sinfonico"; opera choir of Rome at the Offida Opera Festival, and with the Orchestra di Milano Classica. I performed in Cremona as a soloist on the occasion of the Stradivari Memorial Day 2014 where I played for the first time the song ";Acronym"; by Maestro Giorgio Spriano. I played for the ";Note in volo"; concert festival at the airport of Malpensa.

I organize regularly charity concerts for the Red Cross together with the Ensemble Laurelin that I formed.

I won the first prize in the chamber music ";Carlo Lorenzo Cazzullo"; in duo with the pianist Marco Vismara, the third prize at the Crescendo Competition in Florence, the third prize at the ";Salieri"; International Competition, the third prize at the ";Città di Stresa"; international competition for young musicians, the third prize at the European Music Competition of Moncalieri.

I attended masterclasses with Stephan Picard, Dzeraldas Bidva, Anton Sorokow, and Alina Company. I took part in the International Chamber Music Festival ";Musical Passages";. I played in the Liverpool University of Music Symphony Orchestra, where I also attended a masterclass with Anthony Shorrocks. I attended a baroque violin masterclass at the Magnano Early Music Festival.

Willing to travel: 4 miles

Experience: I have five year teaching experience with both children from 6 to 18 years old and adults. I prepared students for concerts, ABRSM exams, youth competition, conservatoire`s admissions exams. I organized violin and string ensambles during the academic years within my students, on the basis of different skills levels and age, arranging the pieces.

I consider interacting with students to establish a relationship of trust of primary importance. I believe this is the best approach to stimulate creativity, keep them interested in music, create a joyful environment, encourage and guide every student to grow and express him/herself as individuals in a non-judging context. At the same time, in the years I taught in Italy, I had the opportunity to reflect and acknowledge the fulfilment a teacher could receive by the simplicity and appreciation of the students.

These are the reasons why I am highly passionate about teaching.

I approach the study of the instrument with games and songs to learn by heart (Suzuki Books). As soon as the students reach confidence and stability of posture, I progress to combining playing by heart with music reading (generally with Hugh and Kathreine College Method).

During the past academic years, I organized violin ensembles within my students, both small groups such as duos and trios and full class ensemble. I formed ensembles on the basis of different levels and arranged pieces for specific types of ensembles and levels. I truly believe it is essential to combine individual and group lessons to develop listening skills immediately, to learn music as a good example of social interactions, feel an important part of the group and at the same time support each other to create something unique.

I always set myself goals to adapt to each student and decide which learning method enable them to learn at their best, because I believe every student is different and different ways of learning. I have gained experienced in teaching with different violin books (Fortunatov, Dezair, Sheila Nelson, Suzuki) and I keep updated with the new releases

I organized frequent class performances, I think it is fundamental to teach performance skills, not only because it`s an essential part of the process of studying music but also because I believe performing is as extraordinary experience of exchanging emotions between the musicians and the public. I strongly believe that music gives children the opportunity to express their emotions and their creativity and enrich the development of a child, in terms of responsibility, perseverance, constancy and patience.

I am a passionate, creative and open musician, I am currently mastering Classical Improvisation with the acclaimed pianist and improviser David Dolan at Guildhall School of Music. I would implement my lessons with improvisation games.

I consider the role of the parent essential as a support, motivating the child and keeping track of the practice time and homeworks. I previously used a weekly table for the students to fill, that gave excellent results in terms of organizing practice times.
