Sophie

Hi, my name is Sophie and I am in the final year of my BSc in Speech and Language Therapy, with a view to specialising in paediatrics.

I have studied the importance of language acquisition and how these skills evolve, enabling children to produce words and sentences which facilitate communication. In addition I have an in- depth understanding of linguistics - particularly the grammar, structures and concepts that form the English language. Throughout my course I have worked with children who have speech, language and communication needs, this included targeted pronunciation practice to ensure that they are able to articulate and express themselves clearly.

Previously, I have tutored English in Early Years through to KS3 in both the home and school environment where I have focused on phonics, spelling, grammar, literacy and comprehension. I am also TEFL qualified and have delivered lessons to Spanish EAL children. Having spent my primary years abroad I appreciate how isolating it can be when you are unable to communicate effectively with your peers.

I am positive, professional and determined to find the best strategies to support and improve your child’s expressive, receptive and written language skills, by taking a child-centred approach I hope to make learning as interactive and fun as possible.

Experience: I have previously tutored both primary and secondary in English and taught EAL children English in Spain.

Throughout my time at university I have been on placements in the community supporting children with speech and language difficulties. I have also trained and can deliver the ‘I CAN Early Talk Boost’ programme which aims to develop children’s language skills and narrow the gap between them and their peers specifically young children with their delayed language.
