Information about Jason
Hello, my name is Jason and I am an English tutor based in London.
My approach is rather eclectic and adaptable - I assess the student and look at their likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, and their learning style: if they are visual, auditory, or kinaesthetic learners.
The most important thing, which is widely overlooked, is a student`s confidence. I put in a lot of work to build a foundational level of understanding of the subject and concepts, and through that encourage confidence and assurance in their abilities. Once we have this foundation, I want to then just focus on precision and repetition. We focus on the precise criteria and skills that examiners want to see and work to frame our answers around these criteria. This is just about being technical and is not hard at all - the hard part is building the foundation of understanding.
From here it`s just repeating what we`ve learnt, answering questions in the way that examiners like, displaying the understanding we`ve built and being expressive and explorative. By now, all the hard work is done and we`re clear for the finish line.
One thing I keep consistent throughout my teaching style is that I only guide students to the answers and ideas that are often already stewing in their brains. Using whats called the Socratic method, I let them come up with answers and put them to paper, only adding in suggestions or reframing answers to include or remove certain details. Truly, I want to do as little as possible and let them express their ideas freely. I adjust my input from student to student depending on their answer and ability, which always increases throughout our time together, meaning I often say less and less the longer Ive been with a client!

Experience: I hold a BA degree in English (Upper Class 2.1) from the University of Leeds (Top 100 University in the world & part of the Russell Group). I also received the following A level results: A*A*B in English Literature, Drama, and Sociology.
I have 5 years of tutoring experience. I started while at university, working for an agency which placed tutors into schools to support struggling students. I worked for 2 years under this agency, called Tutor Trust, and afterwards went on to tutor privately. I`ve been working privately for 3 years now, with children of all ages from 6 - 18. I`ve worked across multiple examining boards, with all students of all backgrounds, learning styles, strengths and difficulties.
I have a 100% rate of success in my students. Success is measured as whether or not we achieve a significant improvement from pre-tutoring. Every single one of my students have gotten the grades they were hoping for, some of them even higher. I have no intention of this changing!

Our 28 yrs old special needs son has been having reading, spelling and writing lessons with Jason since the beginning of October, 3 lessons per week. Jason is truly a tremendous teacher, patient, caring and above all inspiring. Alexander`s literacy skills have improved over the course of the month, but most importantly of all, Alexander greatly enjoys his lessons with Jason. What a great stroke of luck that we found Jason whilst our son is in lock-down with us.
