Hi

I`m a passionate English Lang & Lit tutor. I have two years experience tutoring for a private tuition company in Kingston, and for various secondary schools throughout North Surrey. I have helped KS3, GCSE, and A-Level students to significantly improve their grades and prepare for exams.

I am a creative writer, when not tutoring my professional focus is on play and scri pt writing. I have a BA in Creative Writing and Journalism (2:1), and a Masters degree in International Development (Merit). And I am enrolled on the 2020 Writing for stage and broadcast MA at CSSD.

For the last four years I have also worked as a professional Youth and Family Worker, so experienced at working with young people managing crisis and the difficulties of adolescence. I am skilled at communicating on mental health and social problems. This can be useful extra skill with certain students.

For my teaching style I make efforts to understand the needs and characters of each student to make sure that we work together as effectively as possible and get the best results.

I can help to identify the areas that need improving for each module for your English GCSE or A-Level exams. This I do by going through with each student the key areas for each module, to assess current knowledge and ability. This quickly highlights what needs doing.

For creative writing I can help you develop more of an understanding of narrative modes, use of imagery, poetry etc. I am in the midst of training in writing for stage and broadcast media, so I can share with you the key principles in dramatic writing such as: the one act play, writing great dialogue, character, plot and structure, and I can study the great playwrights to see how they approach telling stories to greatly expand your understanding, so you can apply this to your own work. I also know about writing competitions and groups that you may want to join.

I am naturally encouraging, I believe that this is essential to get the most out of students, and I imbue my sessions with passion for the subject. I help students develop confidence, independent learning, and problem solving skills by guiding them to answer questions through their own abilities wherever possible. I often demonstrate skills for students to emulate and I use previous English exam papers to help students prepare.
