Information about Alex
Hello! I`m Alex, and I think that the best way to teach is to make a connection with students and find out how they learn best.
I break down subjects to help understanding, provide learning resources, and teach kids to work better by themselves, so that they can tackle their school homework better, learn better in class, and revise better. This can include setting homework between sessions.
I can teach exam technique, revision practices, and hopefully increase learning motivation and self confidence. The resources I`ll use include textbooks, recommended reading, online videos and my personal revision notes as well as ones the student and I will create together.
Every student is different in how they learn and tackle exams, I try to find out what each student needs to understand the fundamental core of the subject.
Availability: I am very flexible, and can work whenever suits the student best. I am willing to tutor online.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: Having been a tutor for over a year, I have helped a number of children in their entrance exams, and in the lead up to other crucial exam periods, helping ensure they have a concrete, root understanding on all the mathematical concepts they need. I aim to plug the gaps in their knowledge, help to further their academic career (exam and interview preparation), and help with areas of Maths where they are lagging behind or feel theyve been left behind in their school teaching.
I have taught children from a range of backgrounds, from A level students aiming for Oxbridge, to state school children that have been put on dedicated catch up Maths programs. I have spent some brief time gaining teaching experience at Magdalen College School in Oxford during my university career, and am currently working as a tutor before I start my PGCE course in September. Im currently teaching two students, one year 7 boy and a girl doing her GCSEs, both Maths.
My current GCSE level tutee was on track for a 3 in Maths when I started teaching her, but after a few months of my tuition she moved up to a 5 and is continuing to improve, most importantly she has learnt how to teach and revise herself, and gained the confidence to at least attempt questions to the best of her ability.
I have two younger brothers, 15 and 13, whom I have taught in Maths and Physics throughout the entirety of their school careers and have always done well as a result - they`re both currently studying at Emmanuel school.
