Information about Alicia

I am a fully qualified native Spanish teacher (PGCE), with extensive teaching experience (18 years) in preparing students for their GCSE and A levels exams up to university level. I also have some experience teaching IB and Advanced Placement Spanish (USA). My previous qualifications such as law degree, International Relations and Masters of Laws help me to teach the A level syllabus as it includes a significant amount of politics and history such as the Spanish Civil War.

My teaching practice is based in techniques that get results, and I am passionate about getting my students interested in learning, and also enthusiastic about Spanish as language and as a culture. As a native Spanish speaker, I am able not only to bring an excellent grasp of the language but also of the culture and history of the Spanish world. As we know, Spanish is currently the second most spoken language in the world after Mandarin. We can say without a doubt that learning Spanish opens doors for the future.

Last year I taught a student who applied to Oxford University to pursue a career in Spanish and French and to my delight she was accepted.

I am naturally passionate about teaching and equally enthusiastic about seeing my students learn, grow, and thrive. Needless to say, that my lessons are tailor made to the individual needs for every student.

I am a GCSE Examiner for a UK Examining Board and an A level for another Board.

Availability: As from 20 March my availability is as follows:

Mornings: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday (this is for A levels students who are able to have free periods)

Afternoons after school and evenings- Wednesday, Thursday

Saturdays all day

Sundays from 3.00 p.m onwards

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: For sixteen years I have taught in a wide range of schools, independent and state, as well as at higher education level, including at Warwick University. I have been Head of Spanish and have an excellent knowledge of a range of exam boards.

My teaching is student-centred, aimed to meet the needs of each individual learner, and uses techniques that work and achieve results. I vary my activities in order to suit a variety of learning needs and styles.

For the last three years I am dedicated to private tuition. I am really glad to say that most of my students have achieved very successful results in both their GCSE and A level exams.

As someone who has struggled with spanish, I have met an array of Spanish teachers in my quest to learn the language. Nonetheless, Alicia is the most engaging and enjoyable teacher I have met thus far. She is very supportive and motivating whilst still remaining focused in her language teaching. She goes at the pace you need but is also very encouraging. Her resources are impeccable and her spanish speaking is clear and easy to follow. She really breaks down everything you need and also helps fill in the gaps for anything you might not know. An amazing teacher, would recommend to anyone studying a language at degree level or even learning a language full stop! My confidence in speaking spanish has improved noticeably and my subject knowledge has been greatly facilitated with her support after only one week. Can`t thank her enough, un maestro fantástico!
