Information about Rachael
I am an experienced and qualified Early Years teacher with a Creative Arts Degree. I was raised and educated mostly in London, England. I am passionate about unlocking young peoples potential and am a great believer in holistic education. I feel education should be based on the premise that each person finds identity, meaning, and passion for life through connections to the natural world, and to humanitarian values such as compassion and peace.
I do believe that children should be leaders in their own learning, following their interests, ideas and relish the chance to gain individual development in the areas that support this. It is paramount to me that I believe in what I am teaching and learning, as that is where my passion and drive lies. I have worked in a vast range of settings and feel I would be an asset to any employer; particularly in early education, creative studies and special education and/or supporting children in behavioral needs.
I am currently taking a break from employment whilst I travel through Europe and Asia. I am interested and excited by the range of teaching roles available globally and have a strong desire to explore and learn from schools and places around the world.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have worked in education for other 13 years. My last 6 academic years have been spent teaching within Thailand. Most recently at Lanna International School, Chiang Mai, which offers British Education from early years to secondary. I made the decision to take on the role of an Early Years Specialist Teacher at this establishment. I opted for this unique position as it gave me the opportunity to teach four separate classes, (Nursery - 3 to 4-year-olds and Reception - 4 to 5-year-olds) their specialist morning sessions in Physical Education, Music and Creative Arts. Alongside Specialist teaching, I heavily supported the staff and children with their play-based learning sessions every afternoon. Additionally, I supported by implementing staff training sessions with a focus on the importance of play based learning and emotional well-being. Over the past 2.5 teaching years at Lanna, I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of a community school and supporting my department by taking on various responsibilities allowing me to grow both professionally and personally.
In Phuket I worked as a Reception teacher (4 to 5-year-olds), using the British Early Years curriculum, at an international school. I enjoyed it immensely; taking on the challenges of working in a new country, developing my professional skillset as well as immersing myself in a brand-new culture.
