Information about Aleksandra

I am a PhD candidate in English Literature at the University of Cambridge, where I also provide instruction and dissertation supervision to undergraduate students. I hold a completed MPhil (with Distinction) in English Literature also from the University of Cambridge, a parallel BA Hons (with the Highest Distinction, also equivalent to double Class I with Distinction) in European Literatures, Linguistics and Philosophy from Utrecht University, and school examinations concluded in Ljubljana, Slovenia, after experience across a number of European territories.

Across a number of platforms, I offer (I) academic and professional instruction, (II) aid with core academic skills, as well as with academic and professional applications and interviews, and (III) help with proofreading, transcri ption, transliteration, editing, translation, interpretation and related endeavours.

(I) I offer instruction predominantly in English literature, linguistics, philosophy, and related areas of literary, linguistic, arts, cultural and intellectual history — in all cases overall as well as within specialised sub-fields such as those of stylistics, aesthetics and ethics — but due to the interdisciplinary nature of my postgraduate and before that undergraduate research, I also encourage inquiries into individual lessons within an assortment of intertwined arts and humanities disciplines, as well as on topics that draw on additional literary, linguistic and cultural contexts. In my work at the University of Cambridge, for example, I have provided supervision for undergraduate dissertations and papers investigating literature in itself as well as in its intersections with installation, film, media, music and art, and aided students interested in excavating the influences and intersections between English and additional European texts and contexts, especially Germanic (having opted for English, German and Dutch as an undergraduate before specialising in English as a postgraduate) and Slavic (having lived in and around a number of South-Eastern and Eastern European territories).

(II) In addition to instruction, I also offer aid with essential academic skills such as reading comprehension and synthesis, writing, editing, presentation, and approaching extended pieces of coursework — whether EPQs, EEs, IAs, BA/BSc or MA/MSc theses, or even PhD dissertations — as well as professional and academic applications — whether Oxbridge or else. Apart from having been the recipient of a number of departmental and institutional prizes for my own extended research, I have also had success aiding other students in developing their academic skills and successfully submitting commended theses and dissertations — both within my own disciplines and different ones entirely, including in psychology, sociology and biochemistry. After all, when it comes to academic skills, a robust foundation will be, by definition, highly transferrable.

(III) Finally, I also offer technical aid with proofreading, transcri ption, transliteration, editing, translation and interpretation. In fact, I have extensive experience in this sector — including in association with research, archival and editorial positions across a number of educational institutions, language assistance agencies, and specialised philosophical, theological and historical presses across the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Germany — and would be glad to put my expertise to use.

As the above may already have indicated, I am used to working flexible and frequently unexpected hours as well as on assignments with sudden and tight deadlines, and am thus also open to inquiries from those who require a flexible approach — including work with imminent deadlines, late-night availabilities, and other unconventional circumstances.

Experience: I am an experienced tutor of university, secondary and middle school students. I am keenly aware of students` different personal and educational backgrounds and learning profiles — having particular experience working with students with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, CFS/ME and varied language-processing and -production difficulties, as well as with students from low-income, state-educated, first-generation, asylum-seeker, care-experienced, estranged and other socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds — and aim to structure my lessons around each individual.

I also have extensive experience as a researcher;; research, archival or editorial assistant;; and proofreader, transcri ptionist, translator and interpreter in association with the Universities of Cambridge, Sheffield, Utrecht, Heidelberg, Huddersfield and Ljubljana;; the language agencies Lingua and Limita as well as a number of international platforms such as ProZ;; the specialised philosophical, historical and theological press Skandalon;; and a number of additional academic and professional institutions. In this, I am more than used to employing a range of research, teaching and professional skills across languages, and welcome inquiries to this effect, including from a place of widely varying educational, disciplinary and cultural backgrounds.
