Information about Avril

I am a recently retired teacher with 35 years of class teaching experience, specialising in early years /KS1 education. I know how to help young children acquire skills in reading, spelling, writing and number work and would love to continue doing this. I have always got on well with the parents of children I have taught and have enjoyed working in partnership with them.

Availability: After school by arrangement, or on Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Willing to travel: 2 miles

Experience: I have taught across the primary age range with literacy, library, and deputy headship responsibilities in Derbyshire, Essex, Inner London and for the last 25 years, in Sutton. For many years I taught year 1 and Reception aged children and became fascinated by how they learnt. From various mathematical courses I have built up an extensive repertoire of games and activities to reinforce mathematical learning. I enrolled in a year`s course at the Roehampton Institute and hold a certificate of Professional Practice in the Teaching of Children with Reading and Writing Difficulties ( Dyslexia).

Avril has the patience of a saint, she has tools and techniques that make maths fun. My daughter is really starting to understand the basics and hopefully this will help her to develop her skills.
