Information about John
I`m a PhD candidate researching genetics in cancer biology at Imperial College. Prior to this I studied medical genetics at Queen Mary, University of London, for my BSc, followed by an MRes in cancer biology at Imperial College.
I have a broad knowledge of biology, particularly in the areas of genetics and epigenetics, as well as cell biology and evolutionary theory.
I have a range of tutoring experience from helping my 12 year old cousins with science homework to assisting with bioinformatics tutorials for Master`s students. Whatever the level I aim to explain things clearly to give understanding of the subject, rather than just learning answers to questions.
I am able to help with:
- Homework
- Essay planning and structuring
- Feedback on essays and papers
- Analysis of journal articles
Availability: I am available during most evenings
I work in Hammersmith so am available to tutor around West London. I live in East Dulwich so would also be available around that area.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I can tutor biology up to Master`s level and chemistry up to A level
My experience to date includes:
- Tutoring A level students, including acting as a mentor during work experience for one of these students
- Supervising a Master`s student carrying out their research project in my lab. This involved teaching both biological theory, and experimental techniques.
- Tutoring the Bioinformatics stream of the Cancer Biology MRes at Imperial

Feedback For John (6)

Very happy. John has been tutoring my daughter for her GCSE Biology for a couple of months so far. He is a knowledgeable and friendly tutor and my daughter has shown a new enthusiasm for the subject as he is able, when asked, to explain topics in more depth, good for an enquiring mind. We hope to continue with John until the final exams.
Would highly recommend.
