Information about Mudassar

Mudassar is a Cambridge University Engineering PhD Scholar, who is formally trained with overall 7yrs (~1130hrs) experience in tutoring 64 students from pre-GCSE through to university level.

Mudassar is a Cambridge University MPhil and Doctoral Scholar, and is currently finishing his PhD in Engineering (3D Printing). He is formally trained and is a registered supervisor at Cambridge University where he teaches 3rd year Cambridge undergrads, with overall 7yrs (~1130hrs) experience in tutoring 64 students from pre-GCSE through to university level. He has also led 2 prestigious summer schools programs (age 14-18yrs) and have also volunteered as a STEM ambassador and in Royal Masterclasses. Therefore teaching, for him, is more of a passion than a job. Thus far, all of his students have achieved their goals and, in many cases, surpassed them (even at a shorter notice!).

His tutoring style is different to most GCSE and A-level tutors. He is a firm believer of the Socrates approach (asking questions to tease out the answers from students in a very friendly and collaborative way). While this requires a greater initial investment, it ultimately leads to a deeper appreciation for the subject matter and helps build self-confidence where the tutee feels enlightened, intrigued and enriched, thus giving both of us a sense of achievement at the end of each session. Understandably, this style may not suit everyone, and hence he has also enjoyed creating tailored strategic solutions to difficult situations and has experience in boosting grades at short notice before re-sits or after mocks.

Mudassar likes to continuously assess the student’s needs and adjusts his teaching depending on whether a faster or slower pace is required, breaking subject topics down into steps to develop confidence, allowing for a more rewarding learning atmosphere. Having self-taught himself, he is keen to share successful methodologies in developing a strong learning process whether the tutee is lacking confidence, wondering how they are going to remember everything, or would like to gain a deeper insight into how the maths works beyond a ‘set of rules’. His approach to tutoring is integrative; he splits sessions into teaching and practice. He works top down from the syllabus focussing on topics that students find most challenging, and complement it by solving past papers, thus tracking and reinforcing what they’ve learnt and preparing them for their exams, where he shares the exams techniques that has tremendously helped his students in the past.

Availability: Weekdays & Weekends (currently writing my thesis, so fairly flexible).

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: As a fully trained and an experienced tutor (references available), Mudassar has a comprehensive knowledge of the GCSE and A-level specifications for different exam boards. He particularly enjoys the opportunity to work with adults whose school experience had left them with a fear of Maths. Over the years, he has also accumulated extensive experience in grading GCSE and A-level past papers that gave him useful insights into common exam pitfalls which come very handy in helping his students on exam techniques.
