Information about Nadeschda

I am a certified teacher of German as a second language and currently a PhD student in comparative Japanese and Korean literature at SOAS, University of London. With German as my mother tongue and language training in Japanese, Korean and French, I know both sides of the language acquisition process and can understand problems students might face when studying a foreign language. I hope I can get my students as enthusiastic about language learning as I am myself!

My tutoring style focuses on the student which is why in our first meeting, we will discuss your specific needs and expectations for the tutoring. In addition, since the most effective style of learning differs from person to person, we will try to evaluate continuously which practices work best for you.
It is my firm belief that language training is most efficient if the student takes an active interest in the language and the culture it represents (and I am backed up by science in this), so my approach is to find out what personally interests you in the German or Japanese language and to integrate this into our lessons. As for my personal style, I am kind and mellow in personal contact, but persistent on language accuracy so you will not end up memorising faulty constructions.

Availability: As a PhD student, I am very flexible. Weekdays and weekends both work for me.

Experience: LANGUAGE TEACHING:
I have taught German and Japanese in various settings and to a variety of different students.
In 2010, as a graduate student, I was the Japanese language tutor at the department for Japanese Studies at my home university in Cologne for two years. My classes were always well attended and I have received very positive feedback from my students and the convener of the language program.
In 2013, I privately taught a university student of German-Korean translation studies in Seoul, South Korea, for three month and was able to prepare her for her examinations.
In July 2015, through an internship at the German language school "Heidelberg" in Tokyo I had the opportunity to broaden my horizons by assisting the language teachers and learn from their experience.
In September 2015, I concluded the distance study course “Basic Principles and Concepts of Teaching German as a Foreign Language” offered by the Goethe Institute in collaboration with the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, receiving the overall mark “good”.

OTHER
I received my MA in Japanese studies, German language and literature and philosophy from the University of Cologne in 2011 (with distinction)

Nadeschda is lovely, enthusiastic, and a great teacher! She`s been my German tutor for over a month now (I`m A2-ish level), and is very focused on what I want to get from the classes, using material that I`m interested in, making things fun, and pushing me to challenge myself. I couldn`t recommend her highly enough!
