Information about Ben
Im an Oxford maths graduate and qualified teacher with nine years teaching experience at Westminster School, and have hundreds of hours of tutoring and teaching experience. I am comfortable teaching maths at all levels, but I particularly specialise in helping students to obtain A and A* grades at A level and GCSE, and in preparing students for school entrance exams, and for Oxbridge applications and interviews. Many of my clients have been through personal recommendations from pupils I have taught previously.
I have taught maths to pupils of all abilities from ages 7 to 18, including preparation for GCSE and A-level Maths and Further Maths, Oxbridge tests and interviews, 11+, 13+ and 16+ entrance tests, STEP, MAT, TMUA, SMC, BMO, and SAT tests. My students have obtained places at some of the top universities in the world, including Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, UCL, and Imperial College, London. In 2018 every student in my A level Further Maths set at Westminster obtained an offer from either Oxford or Cambridge in Mathematics or a related subject.
I studied Mathematics at Hertford College, Oxford, and graduated in 2005 with a First Class Undergraduate Masters degree in Mathematics.
Westminster School has some of the highest entrance standards in the country. At Westminster, I was extensively involved in marking entrance papers, and conducted numerous entrance interviews, so I am very familiar with what leading independent schools are looking for in potential students, and I know how best to prepare students for entrance exams and interviews, at all entry ages.

Experience: If you read my reviews, youll see that my students find me to be an engaging and fun teacher, who makes the subject interesting, and enables them to succeed at it.
I believe in teaching maths for understanding, not as a set of strange rules to be learned. Taught properly, maths is a really interesting subject that should make sense. I ensure that my students really understand the key ideas behind the maths that theyre studying, and I know how to ask the right questions to deepen that understanding, and prepare them to be able to answer really challenging questions, not just regurgitate meaningless methods. This approach makes maths more interesting, and ultimately leads to much better results.
With my extensive experience as a teacher and tutor, Im able to adapt my teaching to the needs of each individual student, whether you are finding maths difficult and looking to improve your grades and understanding, wanting to prepare for examinations or interviews, or someone who is confident in maths and looking to be stretched and challenged in the subject, Im confident that I can help you.
Some examples of feedback I have received:
I really believe that Ben could explain pretty much anything to pretty much anyone
You made maths interesting. Thats coming from someone who has never liked it, and never believed it could be interesting. Thank you.
Your teaching gave me the confidence I had always lacked in maths
