Information about Sebastian

Please note:

Hello, I`m a freelance teacher based in south London. I have a deep passion for learning and taking on challenges, such as setting up my own education based company and living abroad in Germany for several years.

I am extremely patient, relaxed and offer support and motivation. With all my students I aim to build up a friendly relationship and I encourage a fun and humorous approach to all tasks. Lessons shouldn’t be sterile and full of anxiety as no one learns well when they are stressed out.

One of my most important roles is to show the student that they can achieve their goals, regardless of what they’ve been told or their current levels of confidence. I believe that all students can make huge progress, they just need the right motivation and way of looking at a problem. Seeing my students make great advances is one of the most exciting parts of my job.

Availability: I`m available throughout the week and also offer weekend tuition.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have degree in Philosophy from the University of Warwick and a Cambridge Certificate in teaching English. Over the last three years I have taught a large number of different students. My students have ranged from primary school children of 9-10 years old to retired casual learners.

I have helped many students at all levels with a particular focus on essay writing and preparing for exams.

Sebastian is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. He helped me improve my English in a proficiency level and one of the best part was that the lesson was really enjoyable. I am really happy that I found and worked with him and I highly recommend him.

Sebastian is a fantastic and amicable philosophy tutor. Not only is he good at the subject he teaches, but he is good as a teacher as well. He clearly cared about me a student and my performance as he really went the extra mile throughout our time together to support me for A level.

Our lessons generally consisted of looking over homework I had done for him, followed by moving through whatever topic we had planned for that lesson. He would critique it (my homework), tell me what I did well and where I could improve. More than that, he would always tell me how to improve. Sebastian was always there to explain something I didn`t understand and was very patient when I needed to go over something with him. More than that, he was good at going through each aspect of a topic and making sure I understood. If yes, then I would write a couple of questions for homework.

Sebastian stood out to me because he seemed to do just as much work outside of lessons as he did teaching me personally. As mentioned, once he thought I understood a topic, he would set me a homework task or two exploring that topic, which was a big help in understanding where I needed to improve. Sebastian marked his homework before the lesson and then took me through it. I feel this helped us both work out together how I needed to improve. This was very effective because I myself was involved in the process as well as him, and this sense of engagement made it easier to spot areas of improvement and improve. More than this, Sebastian would often compile notes from various resources as well as booklets to help me organise revision during the year, with exam booklets to help me during the run up to exams.

Needless to say, Sebastian puts lots of effort into his tuition. He is professional and very helpful, and very much worth the money.

Sebastian is an excellent tutor who has restored our daughter`s confidence in her ability in the subject, in a very short space of time. He explains things clearly,is obviously in command of his material and gives impressively detailed feedback on written work. We would recommend him without hesitation.

Sebastian is helping me with my Philosophy degree which I`m doing through distance learning. He has a great approach and has made the concepts I found difficult clear. He is very reassuring and I am now enjoying what seemed to be a very daunting subject. He is very knowledgeable and a natural teacher. I`m so glad I found him and would highly recommend Sebastian for learners at all levels.
