Information about Rachel
Hello prospective student and/or parent of student! In July of this year (2020) I graduated from the University of Leeds with a first class honours degree in Chinese studies. Having grown up in China (13 years) and having spent a year in Taiwan during my studies, I have a standard Mandarin accent and pronounciation with a firm grasp of the tonal system. I am a native English speaker and have been through the British education system, so I have experience taking GCSE and A-Level Mandarin exams (earning an A* and A in these exams, respectively). During my time in sixth form I also took on the role of teaching assistant in my school`s GCSE-level Mandarin classes.
Availability: I am currently doing a remote part-time degree at SOAS. I expect to be free most after-school times and evenings, as well as some mornings (dependent on my timetable). I will be available at all times on weekends.
Willing to travel: 1 miles
Experience: I have experience as a teaching assistant at my sixth form, helping students with their GCSE Mandarin preparation. In addition to this, I taught ESL to two 11-year-olds during my year abroad in Taiwan.
With regards my English teaching qualifications, I achieved an A grade at A level English literature and have received consistent firsts and 2:1s in essays throughout my degree. I was given an award by my university for the essays I wrote during my year abroad.
