Information about Ryan

Hi, I’m Ryan.

Lessons can be centred around Ableton Live or Logic Pro and can be tailored towards the genre that you want to learn/create. My expertise lies in sound design (synthesis), sampling, creating your own drum and percussion tracks, music theory, composition, mixing, basic mastering, audio effects and arrangement. I can either teach you from your own home studio or you can come for lessons at my studio, the equipment I have in my studio is as follows:

Hardware

• 27 inch iMac
• Ableton Push
• UAD Universal Audio Apollo 8
• Korg Minilogue
• Moog Minitaur
• Mbase 11 Kick Drum Generator
• Novation MIDI Keyboard

Digital Plugins

• Universal Audio Plugins
• Spectrasonics (Trilian, Omnisphere and Keyscape)
• Soundtoys
• Reaktor (Native Instruments)
• Fabfilter
• Waves
• Diva by Uhe
• Arturia Plugins

I will record each lesson through a screen grab using QuickTime to ensure that you have your own personalised music production course, this means you can re-watch the lessons at home. I will also set you your own targets and goals to make sure you progress with every lesson. I have a rich bank of audio samples to share with you that I have recorded and created over the last ten years.

Availability: I`m available on evenings from 6 pm and weekends.

Experience: My passion for electronic music sparked after I began visiting nightclubs as an avid listener and then spinning records in nightclubs around Leeds in my teenage years. Following on from this I became fascinated with creating my own music and started producing a wide range of genres. From the age of sixteen I have regularly played at clubs and venues throughout my hometown of Leeds; my passion then led me to expand beyond the confinements of Leeds as I earned gigs throughout the UK and Europe.

My experience within this industry is plentiful; I release music both digitally and on vinyl for electronic music labels located in Berlin, London and Paris. I have a first-class honours degree in music technology (BSc), two years’ experience as a college lecturer teaching music technology and production at The Manchester College, a PGCE in Lifelong Learning and five years’ experience tutoring music production privately both at a music studio in Leeds (Crossfader) and from my home studio. Many of my students have gone on to be awarded nationally known qualifications (including BTEC level 1, 2 & 3) and some are now working as DJs and producers within the music industry.

I`ll start off by saying the level of music Ryan produces himself should be enough of an indication to be confident in his abilities to teach music production. I am a complete novice when it comes to music production and Ableton and wasn`t very optimistic at all about ever being able to create my own music to a good standard. I had my first lesson with Ryan today and was completely blown away. You tell him the sound you`re looking to create and he delivers a lesson directly tailored on how to produce it. His training methods are to the point but done so in a way that is easy to understand and he is able to go into as much or as little detail as you like. The lesson is also recorded so you can refer to it in your own time, which is really useful. I went into the lesson not really knowing what to expect or if music production was for me, but came out filled with optimism. Music production doesn`t come over night and I am at the very early stages but I have every confidence that Ryan is the right person to get me to where I want to be and I would recommend anybody else who is considering learning how to produce their own music to go and see him. Not only is he a good teacher but an all round sound guy. I thoroughly enjoyed my lesson and this will be the first of many.
