Information about Katie

I am an experienced and supportive tutor with over 10 years’ experience working with students aged 6–18. I enjoy helping students build confidence, feel comfortable with their subjects, and develop a positive approach to learning.

I specialise in GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, as well as A-level Biology, and have extensive experience preparing students for exams. I support students with understanding key content, developing effective revision strategies, and building exam confidence, always tailoring lessons to each student’s needs and pace.

I hold a PhD in Neuroscience, and as a recent graduate I am very familiar with current curricula and exam expectations. I aim to explain ideas clearly and patiently, creating a calm and encouraging environment where students feel able to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow in confidence.

My goal is to help students feel supported, capable and prepared, so that they can achieve their best and move forward with reassurance.

Experience: I began my journey in academic support at the age of 16, when I started working with a Kumon Learning Centre, guiding students through structured learning plans and supporting them to build confidence and independence in their learning. This early experience sparked my passion for education and showed me how rewarding it can be to support students over time.

Since then, I have continued to tutor students both privately and through agencies, working in person and online. While completing my BSc in Molecular Biology, I tutored students in GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, supporting both subject understanding and exam preparation.

After my BSc, I gained further experience working with younger students at KS2 and KS3, adapting creatively to find enjoyable and engaging ways to learn. I also worked with a wide range of students, including those with special educational needs (SEN), tailoring learning strategies to individual needs and supporting students alongside the school curriculum.

As my experience developed, I began teaching A-level Biology and Chemistry, helping students to build confidence with more advanced content and exam technique. During my PhD in Neuroscience, I also mentored students, providing pastoral support and guidance through academic challenges.

Alongside tutoring, I now support students with university applications and general guidance in accessing higher education. I am passionate about instilling a love of learning and creating a calm, supportive environment where students feel able to work through challenges and ask questions they may feel nervous about raising in the classroom.
