I have a very broad based scientific knowledge that I have developed throughout a lifetime devoted to academic and applied research. I worked for over 25 years as a senior scientist at Rothamsted Research, which is a world renowned Plant Research Institute. I can offer an in depth and up to date knowledge of a number of different areas relevant to the A level biology and chemistry curricula and to the three GCSE science subjects. As a result of my professional scientific experience. I believe that I can introduce a fresh angle to the learning experience that builds upon that acquired in the class room.
I take a student centred approach to teaching, trying to understand the needs of the individual pupil and tailoring the lesson content accordingly. By limiting the amount of "teacher talk" at the outset I try to provide the student with the opportunity to convey what their interests and aptitudes are and what areas of the subject they may be struggling with, so that they can benefit maximally from my tutoring. I consider it essential that I build their confidence and create an atmosphere where they are happy to participate actively in the lessons and test out their ideas. I attribute great importance to positive rapport with the student and try to develop a trusting relationship, both with the pupil and, if apropriate, with the parents.

Experience: Tutoring of over 100 students in the last 4 years. I teach up to A level biology and chemistry all exam boards. I also teach GCSE physics and some undergraduate biology.
