Information about Nashrin

Specific learning differences (SpLD) is an umbrella term, commonly referred to the diagnosis of dyscalculia, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia which can often co-exist or overlap with other forms of learning difficulties such as attention deficit or speech and language issues etc.

Children and young people with SpLD often struggle to cope with the demands of the curriculum and the level of work expected of them. SpLD pupils can struggle with reading, comprehension, handwriting, writing composition, spelling, punctuation, grammar, organising ideas, managing time effectively, following instructions, auditory and visual issues, memory, numeracy i.e. word problems, number facts, timestables etc. These difficulties can vary.

Specialist teaching methods differ from traditional teaching found in schools. The sessions are structured, using multisensory methods and engaging activities for more effective learning. Specialist teaching sessions support pupils through targeted intervention, raise a pupil`s self- esteem and support them to become a more independent learner. Pupils will learn strategies they can use both in the session, in the classroom and homework.

Specialist teaching services provide baseline assessments, personalised sessions which are provided at home and in educational settings as well as consultation, support and advice to parents, schools and pupils. Support is also provided to non-SpLD pupils who just need an extra boost to catch up with the curriculum and for learners who speak English as a second language (EAL). Please note, support and advice can be provided via online platforms - both international and national students.

Availability: Flexible with times - will need to be discussed with the specialist teacher.

Experience: I have over 7 years experience teaching children with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ADHD, autism etc. I have experience teaching students in primary school (key stage 1 and 2) and secondary schools (Key Stage 3 - Yr 7 - 8). I have worked with national and international students in small group settings, 1:1 as well a in-class support. My experience in the specialist field has enabled me to take on consulting opportunities liaising with SENCOs, parents, teachers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and other agencies to help tailor the individual needs of students. Hence, a more holistic and multi-disciplinary approach. I also consult with students who are taking A-Level or GCSE exams, reviewing their strategies and suggesting ways to perform better under exam conditions. I also run specialist workshops i.e. touch typing, handwriting, phonics, reading, 11+ and 7+ exams etc
