Information about Alessandro

With more than fifteen years’ experience as an actor, theatre director and tutor in higher education and privately, I am fully dedicated to excellence and in particular to inspiring and instilling in my students the same passion for the crafts that my tutors and directors have inspired in me.

Since transitioning to strictly working privately this year, my students have been accepted to LAMDA, RADA, Bristol Old Vic, Mountview, and Juilliard, while others are working professionally as theatre, film, television and voiceover artists.

Availability: Monday through Friday from 5:30 to 8:30pm and Saturday & Sunday upon request. I will only take on 1 or 2 hour sessions.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: While training as a MFA Theatre student at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), I had the incredible privilege of working with and being teaching assistant to Tony Award winning director Mel Shapiro. One of the greatest aspects and prerogatives of the program he was Head of, was the fact that he created a truly eclectic one that didn’t just focus on one style of acting, like most acting programs would have done at the time. I chose to join UCLA precisely because of the eclectic dimension of its acting program, which explored not only Meisner, but also other legendary theatre authors such as Stanislavski, Uta Hagen and Michael Chekov among others. There was also strong emphasis on Kristin Linklater’s vocal techniques as well as Frederick Matthias Alexander Technique.
Needless to say, all of the above was supported by heavy study of Shakespeare and the classics.
I believe that this comprehensive approach was an excellent choice and something I always have tried to pass on to my students as well. I believe that to help actors reach their full potential within the craft they need to be equipped with as many different techniques as possible at our disposal, so that they can operate a conscious, informed decision about which one best suits them in the creative process. In some cases, one technique will accompany the actor throughout their whole life and career in others, different techniques will help the actor during different times and even in preparation for specific roles that they’ll need to bring on stage. The latter case is certainly my case, which is why I am very grateful of having had the opportunity of exploring as many schools of thought as possible, and I am determined to give my students the same opportunity.
