Information about Lily

*I am open to adjusting my fee, especially for students from low-income backgrounds.*

I am a neuroscience PhD student at Imperial College London. I have an MSc in Biochemistry (Distinction) and a BSc in Biology & French (1st class) also from Imperial College.

I have over 12 months experience of teaching undergraduate and Masters biology and biochemistry students. I have also worked in an international education charity to help school children develop businesses. I am currently tutoring a Year 9 student in Triple Science.

I would like to empower young people to develop a meaningful understanding of the world through education, and particularly STEM.

As every child is different, I like to work WITH pupils to help them overcome their difficulties. My teaching style varies according to the needs of each student and I make every effort to help the child work towards their desired goal. I am able to explain and ensure that students understand fundamental concepts, before also providing training on revision technique as well as how to answer exam questions. As a tutor, I am happy to provide a service that is more than teaching, be it options advice, careers advice, help with UCAS applications, or general mentoring. I am open to feedback from the student and consistently ensure that I am best meeting their needs.

Experience: I have over 12 months experience of teaching undergraduate and Masters biology and biochemistry students. I have also worked in an international education charity to help school children develop businesses. My current tutees are 13-16 and I help them with triple science, maths, and English.

As part of my undergraduate degree, I studied French and lived in France. I continue to use the French language frequently.

I am passionate about enabling others to access opportunities and have organised several volunteering projects to support educational charities. This includes recruiting mentors for school businesses, matching online volunteers with charities, and inviting educational charities to speak at the London International Development Conference 2015 which I helped organise. In the past I have volunteered at a planetarium to encourage children to take an interest in science.

I currently also worka the the London Science Museum and volunteer at a food bank working with clients, including families, facing a range of social and economic problems. I am patient, empathetic, and friendly in this role.
